China agrees to purchase more U.S. goods after trade talks with Trump officials

China has agreed to “meaningful increases” in its purchase of U.S. agriculture and energy exports to help reduce the U.S. trade deficit, both countries said Saturday after wrapping up two days of high-stakes trade talks in Washington.

A joint statement released by the White House said negotiators from both sides found “consensus on taking effective measures to substantially reduce the United States trade deficit in goods with China.”

“To meet the growing consumption needs of the Chinese people and the need for high-quality economic development, China will significantly increase purchases of United States goods and services,” the statement said. “This will help support growth and employment in the United States.

The statement said both countries, which have been locked in an escalating tariff feud, agreed to resolve trade concerns “in a proactive manner.”

The Art of the Deal

This will pi** off Dems and particularly Obama. That's what we call winning.

This is America. We love it.

Now Merkel has to come to her senses.

The devil is in the details. The 2012 free trade agreement with South Korea led to bigger Korean trade surpluses. That might have been fine if US exports to Korea had increased significantly. But in fact, there was a $6b increase in US exports and a $13b increase in Korean exports, such that the US trade deficit with Korea actually increased(!).

For every uniparty globalist that said we had no choice but to economically strip mine our country and sell out the average person for corporate profits, Trump is showing them how easy it is while protecting America’s strategic interest and general well-being of the future generations.

This is what happens when you remind countries and companies that one must toe the line with the people running the world’s largest consumer market if you want a piece of the action.

“...China has agreed to “meaningful increases” in its purchase of U.S. agriculture and energy exports ...”
****************************************************
This is an absolutely MEANINGLESS statement. China’s imports of such American goods have been increasing each year so this was GOING TO HAPPEN ANYHOW. But China’s EXPORTS TO AMERICA will increase by a MUCH LARGER amount. If this is all it takes for America to cease actions in the TRADE WAR, we’ve lost before WE BEGIN. China, on the other hand has been engaged in trade warring on us for DECADES!

Please don’t be taken in by such empty words, FReepers.

Can’t wait for (or imagine) the negative spin on this.

Yep, President Trump is at least trying to do things to make things better and being successful in areas that other leaders have ignored.

They’ll always be naysayers.

We elected Trump to bring back jobs and grow the economy internally. He has been reasonably successful at both so far. The China deal is a lot more complicated than trade numbers. First we need them to pull the plug on NK, and that requires some sort of payment by us. Second we need them to stop stealing our IP, attacking our internet, etc. That’s a lot harder but more important than raw trade numbers.

The $375 billion (and growing) trade deficit with China finances much of their efforts to steal our intellectual property and military secrets, explore for weaknesses in our infrastructure, support globalist open-border types in the West to weaken us and help build up their military capabilities.
