But Trump and his backers are wrong about what it means that the FBI reportedly was using a confidential source to gather information early in its investigation of possible campaign ties to Russia. The investigation started out as a counterintelligence probe, not a criminal one. And relying on a covert source rather than a more intrusive method of gathering information suggests that the FBI may have been acting cautiously perhaps too cautiously to protect the campaign, not undermine it.
As a former FBI counterintelligence agent, I know what Trump apparently does not: Counterintelligence investigations have a different purpose than their criminal counterparts. Rather than trying to find evidence of a crime, the FBIs counterintelligence goal is to identify, monitor and neutralize foreign intelligence activity in the United States. In short, this entails identifying foreign intelligence officers and their network of agents; uncovering their motives and methods; and ultimately rendering their operations ineffective either by clandestinely thwarting them (say, by feeding back misinformation or flipping their sources into double agents) or by exposing them

Protocols of the Elders of Spydom:
Thanks for the link:
“Trumps campaign . . . somehow smelled a rat”
You dont become successful without using wisdom, and there’s no reason to believe that a billionaire businessman such as Donald Trump would survive in the corporate world without being on constant guard and employing some loyal spies.
This is something that has been on my mind as I think back to the debate where Trump said to H-> “because you’d be in jail.”
Back then, I thought he was referring to her traitorous actions with regard to the server, the Benghazi cover-up, and the Clinton Crime Family Foundation.
Whenever I see that debate clip now, I see a seriousness, something smoldering within Trump.
I believe he knew something back then, maybe not to the extent thats being revealed, but he knew something, and it made him angry and determined to win.
Could any even imagine the Washington Post or NYT rationalizing the FBI surveillance of Martin Luther King like this?
1. Various officials in the Obama administration were conducting extensive surveillance of Trump campaign officials for months (if not longer) leading up to the election.
2. The Trump campaign knew about it.
3. THEY TOOK ACTIVE STEPS TO THWART AND UNDERMINE IT.
And I suppose using a fake dossier to gain wiretap warrants on Trump associates was to protect him too?
Slavery = Freedom.
The book 1984 was easily written by Orwell in 1949 because they, too, had “progressives” that demanded the same stupid crap they do today.
> The FBI based the FISA court case on Pages history with the Russians (not mentioning that he was an FBI asset) and the fictional dossier. This is felony on top of felony.
And Page hasn’t been charged with anything. Although others may be. :-)
Correct, Page is the ONLY person from Trump’s campaign snared by Mueller that has NOT been indicted.
I believe your theory is being proven true.
I’m so thankful that we finally have a president with shrewd instincts who doesn’t believe in playing nice with the swamp-dwellers.
And what he’s doing with The Big Zero’s ‘legacy’ is delicious icing on the cake.
In this traitor's case, her purpose is to feed disinformation to the American public in order to undermine the President. "Former FBI counterintelligence agent" = professional liar, aided and abetted by Operation Mockingbird CIA shill The Washington Post.

Everyone that participated or authorized he op should be put in indefinite maximum security detention “to protect them”...
Thanks Bigtigermike. Riiiight. The Nazis were just trying to protect the Jews, that's why they rounded them all up into those camps.
Washington Post 'elites' expect us to buy this garbage? Amazing.
Ohhhhhhhhh. Well, why didn’t you say that to begin with?
They're just doin' their job -- regurgitating DNC talking points. That's all Schumer and Warner are doing. Funny they didn't take this line during the yellowcake scandal.
Thats the funniest headline Ive read in a while. It is truly pathetic.
