Senate candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) on Sunday night denounced the pastor expected to speak at Monday's ceremony celebrating the opening of the new U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.
"Robert Jeffress says 'you can’t be saved by being a Jew,' and 'Mormonism is a heresy from the pit of hell.' He’s said the same about Islam. Such a religious bigot should not be giving the prayer that opens the United States Embassy in Jerusalem," Romney tweeted.
Jeffress, a Dallas-based pastor and known supporter of President Trump, said over the weekend that he would be leading the prayer at the dedication of the new embassy. Trump announced in December that he was relocating the embassy to Jerusalem, a move that drew international condemnation and sparked concerns of a widening conflict in the Middle East.
According to a report from Haaretz, Jeffress has made derogatory remarks about Islam in the past, calling it "a religion that promotes pedophilia" and a "heresy from the pit of hell."
He has also called Mormonism "a cult" that is not a true part of Christianity and said "you can't be saved by being a Jew," Haaretz reported.
Jeffress endorsed Romney, who is Mormon, for president back in 2012, despite derogatory comments the pastor made at the time about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Ted Cruz is not part of that group. At least not now he isn’t. I don’t see Ted Cruz as someone acting and plotting against the president. The others would be happy to describe how they are now doing such plotting.
The fact that someone at one time said something negative about Mr. Trump, I won’t hold that against them forever. Let’s not forget, the worst remarks were made during the campaign, in the heat of battle. You are supposed to tear down your opponent.

So on that point, Robert Jeffress gets kudos from me.
Mitt, you might want to start listening at this point in time rather than being defensive.
It sounds like the pastor is repeating what is said in the Bible. That’s not being a bigot, he just has courage to state the facts. Romney’s real issue is with the Bible.
If Romney believed what the Holy Bible says, he wouldn’t be criticizing Pastor Jeffress for telling the truth.
Mitt Romney is a large, puss-infested hemorrhoid, which is why he fits in so well with the political establishment.
As for you not being able to be saved simply because you’re a Jew, that is true.
Lets recall that many Jews refused to recognize Jesus for who he was. They won’t be saved for being Jews. They would only be save if they accepted Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on their behalf.
It’s the core of Christian beliefs, “Salvation Through Faith.”
Gentiles were/are able to do that.
Works alone won’t save us. Only the blood of the Lamb can.
As a good Mormon, I don’t think Romney grasps this.
I’m not an expert on Morman beliefs, so I may be wrong. Others will have to feel in the cracks on that point.

Dr Jeffress is wonderful, and he speaks the truth.
He supports Israel all the way, and believes the Jews (or a portion of them) will indeed be saved, after becoming believers (in Christ).
Anyone who thinks that non-Christians (such as Mormons and Muslims) can be saved is not a Christian.
Obviously President Trump wants America represented by a true Christian at this great event.
And don’t forget the afterlife similarities between Islam and Mormonism.

Christianity has been under continuous assault throughout the world for decades, thanks in no small part to knotheads such as MILF who think that wearing magic skivvies makes them superior to religious leaders like Pastor Jeffers. He’s just picking up the Anti-Trump cudgel from McCain, and also playing to the Mormon electorate in Utah.

So the only Christian that would be acceptable to Romney is on who denies Christ and His promise that he is the only way to the Father. So a former Christian that has left te faith.
A hot day will come when Romney wishes he had listened to the truth this Pastor has spoken.
