Senate candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) on Sunday night denounced the pastor expected to speak at Monday's ceremony celebrating the opening of the new U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.
"Robert Jeffress says 'you can’t be saved by being a Jew,' and 'Mormonism is a heresy from the pit of hell.' He’s said the same about Islam. Such a religious bigot should not be giving the prayer that opens the United States Embassy in Jerusalem," Romney tweeted.
Jeffress, a Dallas-based pastor and known supporter of President Trump, said over the weekend that he would be leading the prayer at the dedication of the new embassy. Trump announced in December that he was relocating the embassy to Jerusalem, a move that drew international condemnation and sparked concerns of a widening conflict in the Middle East.
According to a report from Haaretz, Jeffress has made derogatory remarks about Islam in the past, calling it "a religion that promotes pedophilia" and a "heresy from the pit of hell."
He has also called Mormonism "a cult" that is not a true part of Christianity and said "you can't be saved by being a Jew," Haaretz reported.
Jeffress endorsed Romney, who is Mormon, for president back in 2012, despite derogatory comments the pastor made at the time about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Don’t normally attack a man’s religion, but since Romney jumped first. Mormonism is a cartoon religion, the book of Mormom is a Mad Magazine’s version of Biblical speech, its a joke.

As was stated on Twitter, so no one is allowed to believe what the Scriptures teach without being labeled a bigot? Jeffress has been loyal to Trump and a friend to Israel. Who better to give the speech?
He also gave the sermon before the Trump inauguration.
He had to hold his nose when he voted, just like the rest of us. I’d have to know EXACTLY what Jeffries said about the Jews, before I’ll get all wound up, tho. He’s right about Mormonism, though. And I know Mormons who love the LORD, as much as they know Him, but they’ve been lied to.

well, if that is a real quotation then I would agree with most of it, yes indeedie...... right on! (excepting only the part about how he can’t be saved by a Jew...ha! try telling THAT to 1,500,000,000 good Christian followers of Jesus (the Jew)! ha ha!)...As Jesus himself taught,
“Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.” (John 4:22)....
and it is by being grafted into the Jewish people that Christian believers may be saved, Paul (Romans 9, 10, and 11)
I am betting the pastor was mis-quoted, as no Christian who’s read his Bible (I assume this pastor has one?) for even ten minutes ....could say such a silly thing.
But otherwise, Romney is just trying to shore up his Mormon vote in Utah... by “defending Mormonism”.....attacking this pastor.......... It is prayerfully possible that the good citizens of Utah will NOT elect Romney to the Senate! They realize just how embarrassing he’s been....and of course he’s trying to “DO A HILLIARY” to the good people of Utah...carpet-bagging their wonderful state.

Interesting that Romney would defend Islam.
Joseph Smith did the same thing that Mohammad did.
He self proclaimed to be a prophet.
Cast doubt on the original scriptures to get his own ideas accepted.
Used his position over his followers to fulfill his sexual, money, and power lusts. He used it to marry many women, often in violation of Old Testament commands against marrying sisters, or mothers and daughters.
Like Islam he changed the two core doctrines of Christianity but in ways different from Islam. Those doctrines are who God is and the plan of salvation.
Well, I’m kinda familiar with Jeffress and he is radical. It’s odd because he’s the pastor of the legendary First Baptist Church of Dallas and they’ve had some really great pastors over the years.
incidentally, why (I assume) isn’t Romney celebrating in Jerusalem?
