On January 15, 1967, Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr completed 16 of 23 passes for 250 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception as the Packers rolled over the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 in the first AFL-NFL World Championship game (which would later become known as Super Bowl I). For his efforts, Starr was named the game's MVP and was awarded a shiny new 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray convertible. That Corvette is now going up for auction.
The car is documented with a tank sticker that says "Courtesy Delivery - B. Starr." It presents with its original and patinated Goodwood Green paint, which was chosen to match the Packers' home jerseys and is only slightly touched up. Just 48,000 miles show on the odometer and the listing says they are believed to be original.

Wow, that car is going to fetch some big numbers! And Starr has always been a fan favorite. He is such a great guy.
I still have my 1966 World Champion team picture, autographed by many of the players.
Sweet ride but I have always hated those stock rims/wheel covers and red line sidewalls on the ‘Vettes of that era. So damned ugly.
I always liked that body style. It still looks good today!
I love that color. I stopped at the National Corvette Museum two weeks ago, fun place. They have an exhibit on the sinkhole that occurred in 2014.
Get rid of those ugly red walled tires and it’d be a cool car.
It’s hard to believe now, but the first Super Bowl was not a sellout in the LA Coliseum.
And there was a feeling among many, that the AFL was not quite at the same level of play as the NFL. And that made Vince Lombardi that much more determined, that the Packers win that game, to prove the superiority of the NFL.
That’s what I’ve heard anyway.
PFL
Needs a couple cheese dice hanging from the rearview mirror.
Starr was my ‘first’ Quarterback Crush as a young girl. I grew up in Milwaukee and our family lived, breathed, ate, slept and LIVED for Green Bay Packer Football. Grandma lived not too far from Brown County Stadium (now Miller Park) and Dad worked at the VA Hospital near there and we would sometimes get to go to the games as chaperones for the disabled Vets that lived at the VA.
The Packers used to alternate playing between Milwaukee and Green Bay back then.
Good Times.
Too bad the NFL has now ruined it. Jerks.
That's why Joe Namath guaranteeing a win in Super Bowl 3 was considered laughable at the time and why, when he delivered, it made the concept of the two leagues merged actually viable. The AFL could actually beat the NFL. Big deal.
Back in time when real American men played the game. Thugs were not permitted or wanted.
At the time, that was not at all the case. That was one cool car, from the ground, up.
I read recently that Lombardi was so nervous before the game that he was shaking so bad he had to hold on to an interviewers arm to steady himself. He was terrified that his team would blow the game and hed be a laughing stock among both his peers and the public. He had never seen an AFL game before watching game films and while Im sure he was mentally confident it was a no win situation. Blow out the Chiefs and it was expected. Lose and it was how could you choke that bad?
Bart was one of the truly great ones both on and off the field.
He still holds the record for highest QB rating for post season play.
I believe the car was awarded by now-defunct “Sport” magazine, not by the NFL. They gave a similar award to the star of the World Series.
There was a 63 coupe that was a GM executive wife’s car at a Corvette show several years back. It had the original pink paint (I believe they mixed in fish scales to give it a pearl appearance). The amazing thing it still had the original tires which were special order pink stripe sidewalls. The tire manufacturer made them just for this car. It was a very stunning looking car.
The 67 rally wheel option was much better looking base wheel than the 65 wheel covers and better than the 66 wheel covers IMHO.
I have a 66 GB Packers World Championship signed football.....wonder what that’s worth.
