Washington (CNN)South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham announced Thursday he would vote "yes" for Gina Haspel to be CIA director, bucking the request of one of his closest friends in Congress, Sen. John McCain, who opposes Haspel's nomination.
"I intend to support Gina Haspel to serve as the first female Director of the CIA," Graham said in his statement. "Ms. Haspel has rejected the interrogation policies of the past. She is fully committed to following the law that prevents future abuses. This law, among others, includes the Detainee Treatment Act which I helped author. Gina Haspel should be confirmed as soon as possible as we live in a time of continuing threats."
McCain released a statement Wednesday evening asking senators to vote against Haspel because of her involvement in the George W. Bush administration's interrogation program after 9/11. McCain, who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, cited her refusal in testimony to acknowledge "torture's immorality."
"I believe Gina Haspel is a patriot who loves our country and has devoted her professional life to its service and defense," the Arizona Republican said in the statement.

but he declined to piss on his grave
As McCain said (paraphrasing): This is my last term. I’m now free to say exactly how I feel and don’t have to make nice with the voters.
Graham still has to face his constituents.
Perhaps Linda has started to realize no one is served by listening to the lunatic ramblings of a dying old man.
Linda says, “What difference, at this point, does it make?”
*SMIRK*
The location of his tumor means his judgement is impaired. Anyone who listens to him at this point would destroy whatever legacy he has.
“This is my last term. Im now free to say exactly how I feel and dont have to make nice with the voters.”
He didn’t say this the last time he ran. That makes him a liar in my book.
He’s nothing but an obstructionist at this point.
Maybe Graham has decided he has indulged McCain for long enough. I CAN however, see some Dems saying they are going to honor McCain and vote no.
I think they should make his gravestone a toilet, so as not to affect other plots at Arlington from expected future ‘visitors’
If the tumor was truly impairing his judgment, then he would be praising Trump for withdrawing from the Iran deal and supporting haspel
Has McCain even been seen in public since Haspel was nominated? Why does the media persist in this sham of reporting statements that they cannot verify are coming from McCain himself?
Jaun is a very bitter (and senile) old man. That is the legacy he choose.
Thats not the point. We need to be stressing the judgement center, tot tut, poor guy, you cant listen to what he is saying now that he is in his final hours. Especially Collins and Murcowski
“Lindsey! Is it true? If you voted for this woman as CIA director, I will NEVER speak to you again! And you can take that to the bank!”
“Oh well, Ahh guess I’ll juss deal with it, John.”
This PC stuff is annoying even when it's for someone on our side. Who cares if she's the first left-handed, brown-eyed, deaf Irishman or whatever. But I guess if Linda needs that to hang his hat on, whatever.
Linda may go in for a visit to old Juan.
Fix his pillow.
How are we supposed to believe this? McPain hasn’t been seen in public for months. He could be on ice for all anyone knows.
Independent confirmation that the comments actually came from him???
