NEW YORK (AP) — For 108 years, the Boy Scouts of America’s flagship program has been known simply as the Boy Scouts. With girls soon entering the ranks, the group says that iconic name will change.
The organization on Wednesday announced a new name for its Boy Scouts program: Scouts BSA. The change will take effect next February.
“We wanted to land on something that evokes the past but also conveys the inclusive nature of the program going forward,” said Chief Scout Executive Mike Surbaugh. “We’re trying to find the right way to say we’re here for both young men and young women.”

Sorry there’s not one closer. It’s a lot of work and if done right will take over large sections of your life, but as a leader, it’s worth every minute.
A few months ago, our senior boy, who was the youth leader came to me with tears in his eyes to thank me for encouraging him to take on the leadership position. He told me that it was the most important thing he’s ever done.
That held more meaning for me than you could imagine.
However, it was worth every second. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
Your son's leadership skills will stick with him for life. Funny, I was just talking with a couple of the guys about this...... I used to (was forced to...) teach classes in "leadership" at a former job. Argued with my boss about it, told him it was a complete waste of time.
Leadership isn't something that you pick up in a couple of mornings, sitting in a classroom yapping about theoretical problems while you surreptitiously check your email. It's a quality you either have, or don't. If you don't, you can get better, but it takes years of work and hard-won experience.
Scouts provides this, and the sooner one starts, the better. Look at the troop next time, it's easy to pick out the leaders. They're learning how to do it - and they may not even know that they are.
You’re right. We have a kid in our younger boys group who is 8 years old. I’ve already told some of the other guys he’s going to be our First Officer (Senior boy leaders) in a few years.
It’s awesome to see them mature from super squirrelly to just normal squirrelly in just a couple years.
Most of the ones I’ve kept in touch with over the years have matured well. I know of at least three in the service, some in college, one graduates in Aerospace Engineering next week (and gets to start paying his dad back for some college loans.)
How about “Neutered Scouts of Amerikkka.”
And the rank of Eagle Scout is “cultural appropriation.” Also anathema.
I was in in the early 70’s as well, and thought that the red beret was... well, gay.
I thought it was transparent pandering.
Then again, I was advanced for my age.
Any involved scouting families who still thing they can insulate their family and units from this obscene madness are ostriches.
Should have just gone with Little Man Scouts if Boys was offensive.

The real Boy Scouts should reinvent itself under a different guise, like ACORN used to do:
“We are no longer the Boy Scouts of America! We are now the Scouts Who Say...Icky-Icky-Icky-Icky-Kapang-Zoop-Boing!”
In my day, the 60’s, girls loved having a club of their own! We learned how to become the epitome of young womanhood. I’m sure boys felt the same way about the Boy Scouts.. A club were boys learned how to become men. Has any “leader” in the scouts asked them how they feel about this change?
Instead of ruining the Boy Scouts.. Make the Girl Scouts more LIKE the Boy Scouts.. Minus the boys! But noooooo.. the PC Left have to ruin both organizations.

Given the schedule of most families, the fact that the BSA can now offer programs for EVERYONE in the family works better for me.
For ME, its about logistics and not ideology.
For the parents, if any of them starts getting uppity about that sort of thing, the others are there to deal with it. Everyone is sick of the politicization of Scouting in my units, and they are active on rooting out bad actors.
Again, I live in an extremely liberal place, which, again is a huge advantage for me. I provide a place for traditional family types to find rich program for kids.
Not easily done.
I feel like a gun manufacturer, and the world is trying to ban them. Serious demand driver.
For other units, their mileage may vary.
The Boy Scouts was and should be a way that culture can affirm and promote masculine behavior in little boys with true masculine role models in a safe environment, free of sexual tension. Teaching boys how to be moral adult males and how to master skills and the environment is its purpose. Boys need affirmation, separate from females at times, for creating individualism (agency), since they are not the same and not in competition with females (ever, in physical way).
Males and females are complimentary (Christian rational ethics) and culture should never pit them and “pretend” that they are the “same” and interchangeable (Marxist ethics which destroy reason and logic in children—dehumanize them).
In a rational world we should ban Marxist “ethics” in a true “Justice” system of Law which we did until the 50s. “Rule of Law” can never promote irrational, vile behaviors and irrational ethics to little children—particularly that “sodomizing” others is “good” and “natural” as it was in Sparta and today’s Afghani “cultures” of “man-boy love” sick cultures.
BTW, that is how the Marxists are destroying us: They are removing Rule of Law for Rule of Marx for the last 100 years in America starting with the Federal Reserve and Marxist Income Tax Act (both unconstitutional/null and void). The nail in the coffin is “homosexual marriage”—complete removal of Reason, Natural Law Theory (Our Constitution) and “Justice”—the Queen of Virtue.
Removal of Right Reason and Natural Law for compete irrationality promotion to little children 24/7 creates irrational, ignorant “bots’ like serfs and slaves of old. Embedding Vice as “Good” to little children in our unconstitutional Pavlovian indoctrination centers to destroy children’s ability to use reason and logic (be human) is unconstitutional and evil. Yet, we allow this evil “System” to progress and destroy Christian Ethics in our children to return satanism, paganism, etc......irrational cultures. Age of Reason and Age of Wisdom was only possible with the Christian worldview of free will and individual Natural Rights only from God—never the State or Marx.
Parents are giving up embedding virtue into their children: they are too lazy and it is “easier” to allow government to raise (destroy) your own children. So-called “parents” today allow others to do their Natural Duties—which means there are no Natural Rights anymore, since Duties are necessary for all “rights”. Evil and Lazy is embedded into all children now in “public schools”, who are raised without any virtues and devoid of Reason (where Up is Down, Boys are Girls) which will make them slaves to the state for life.
