The New York Times never discouraged U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy from retiring during the Obama administration, but the newspapers editorial board is now literally begging him to stick around.
Headlined Please Stay, Justice Kennedy, the open letter in Saturdays edition implored him to remain on the high court amid rumors of his retirement, saying [y]our departure right now from the Supreme Court would have dire consequences for the country.
Why? If Mr. Kennedy leaves, his seat would be filled by President Trump, which would mean the court will have a locked-in right-wing majority for the rest of most of our lifetimes. They [Republicans] wont even have to steal a seat to do it.

I am happy to provide better advice to Justice Kennedy:
RETIRE NOW.

I have a feeling Kennedy won’t be the only one.
In fact, I’d rather Ginsburg or Breyer than Kennedy (although I’d like to replace all three.) At least Kennedy votes the right way occasionally.

That would be. But if I had to choose one to go first, I’d pick Ginsburg or Breyer before Kennedy.

Fear...... the rumors of retirement must have some substance to provoke real fear

Agreed, either of those two would be great now and more damaging to the left.

I doubt the Senate would be able to confirm a replacement named by Trump anyway.

I’m waiting for the really big prize....RBG is 84 and Breyer is 79. One or both of them could go at any time. Imagine the meltdown then. :^)

They are still claiming that Gorsuch's seat was stolen from the man Obama nominated...when everyone knows that if a vacancy had occurred in 2008, George W. Bush's nominee would have gotten nowhere. If the Republicans lose control of the Senate then nobody will be confirmed over the next two years--The New York Times is hoping that Kennedy will wait until that happens so his replacement will be named by the Democrat in 2021 (or 2025).

My first thought!!!!
He’s done with mouth damage over the years I wouldn’t mind if he retired yesterday. That said Breyer, Soto, and the old hag can all go. They’re so disgusting they’ll probably live forever. I hope not for our country’s sake
