Former FBI director James Comey insisted in a Fox News interview Thursday evening he did not violate the law when he had a friend pass on to the media memos of his conversations with President Trump, which had portions that later were determined by the FBI to be classified.
Special Report anchor Bret Baier noted that the employment agreement Comey signed with the FBI prohibits the disclosure of any information related to bureau files or acquired by virtue of his employment without prior written permission from the FBI.
Did you have written permission? Baier asked.
No, Comey said. And I didnt consider it part of an FBI file.
But isnt a memo of the FBI directors conversation with the president of the United States considered work product?
No, it was not. It was my personal aide de memoire, Comey said.
The Justice Departments inspector general has opened an investigation into whether Comey leaked classified information when he disclosed the contents of the memos. A report is expected next month.

And though it walks and talks like a duck, this is obviously not a duck lorange.
I’m the queen of England.
Of course he said that. Its not illegal to lie to Brett Baer.
Comey must think a leak is only when you go to the men’s restroom.
The memos were about conversations he had with his boss, the President. Therefore, they were work product. The Director of the FBI does not get to have private conversations with his boss.
This guy is in the Clinton class of lies and deception.
I agree with him, he didn’t “leak” classified documents, HE SOLD STATE SECRETS!!!! Arrest his Ass.
And if I remember correctly, Comey said the Professor was more than a friend, he was his attorney and the memos were subject to attorney-client privilege.
Now, out of the clear blue sky, we find out that, somehow, the Professor had a free pass for FBI access.
I like how he uses French in a phrase nobody ever uses, To make it sound like he wasn't recording (via notes) a confidential conversation with the president.
For some reason it reminds me of John Kerry speaking to his brother in French so that his campaign staff couldn't understand what they were talking about. I wonder if there is something subconscious that makes these mental midgets put on their French hat when they are in the process of being deceptive.
That particular talent is fairly ubiquitous in the higher ranks of the Washington management class. Slick Willy Clinton was more skillful than most, but obviously not unique.
His wife, on the other hand, was a complete stumblebum.
“...the Professor had a free pass for FBI access.”
Has the Prof been fired from the FBI or is he still active?
Comey KNOWS that his memos are “WORK PRODUCT”, prepared in the course of performing his FBI job.
He signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement both upon entering the service of the FBI and again upon his departure. That NDA makes very clear that ‘work product’ is government property and may NOT be retained or disclosed to those outside the agency.
It sounds like he was “on call”. He was not paid. Logically, he should at least lose his security clearance.
“His wife, on the other hand, was a complete stumblebum. “
Her biggest problem is that unlike her husband, Hillary harbors hatred for certain people and that overrides any common sense she may have. She also cannot come to grips with her failings. Slick is a man who doesn’t go around ruffling feathers unnecessarily. His wife is the polar opposite.
If it was a legal release why did it have to secretly go through his bag man rather than mailed directly to the New York Times on FBI letterhead?
Maybe Wray and Sessions should be asked to clear this up?
