The British governments decision to allow two critically ill babies to die in two years is a natural reflection of the culture of death and the steady increase in totalitarian tendencies among Western governments.
Last year, the British government ordered life support removed from Charlie Gard, ending his life when he was just 11 months old. Now, Alfie Evans just 23 months old has received what amounts to the same death sentence. On Monday, he was removed from life support by court order against the wishes of his parents.
Then something remarkable happened. The child confounded his doctors and refused to die.
As of the time I am writing this, Alfie Evans is still alive and is breathing unaided. This is despite the claim made by a medical professional during a court hearing that Alfie would die quickly possibly in minutes if taken off life support.
But even this display of the power of the human spirit to defy the expectations of the supposedly rational and objective state did nothing to sway the minds of the British courts and state-run medical apparatus.
On Wednesday, another legal appeal by Alfies parents to be allowed to try and save their sons life was denied.
The secular system has asserted its right to define what lives are worth living and is determined to prevent its authority from being questioned. Alfie Evans life like Charlie Gards before him has been determined to be limited by the standards of the secular state, and therefore without value.
These tragic government-imposed death sentences for innocent infants should frighten all of us about increasing secularism in society and the steady shift towards a totalitarian willingness to control our lives down to and including ending them on the governments terms.

I just read this on the Fox site. England is dead. I used to be a proud Anglophile. No more. Their history is glorious. Their future is a demonic void.
How long is this state sanctioned death going to be dragged out? I cannot imagine being one of the parents, having perhaps the worst few months of my life being played out in public like Masterpiece Theater. Maybe the parents thought this was the only way to stop the bulldozing from the government doctors. Safety in plain sight. That is the only ‘benefit’ I see in this prolonged public grieving.
England is becoming a nightmare society.
Hope the new Prince never gets sick.
“Hope the new Prince never gets sick.”
Yes, it would be interesting to see if they would so callously condemn him to the same death they prescribe for “commoners.”
Because of one homosexual activist judge who was a director of family services there.
I agree and it’s very sad.
My FIL parents immigrated here from England in early 1900’s, great people but it’s changed tremendously.
This was all predicted decades ago and we just went about our business. Well, here we are. I know of a substantial American population that is going down this path and they are not going to turn back.
Same way the Brits treated the Catholics in NI.
Different story for the ruling class no doubt. Has always been that way and one of the many reasons why our ancestors fled that horrid place. This is what the leftists want for America.
Support Free Republic, Folks!
The British cannot own guns, but they could take out these judges, hospital workers and unarmed police with axes, shovels, hoes and proper length and weight pieces of wood. Make an example of them and repeat if the stupidity continues.
“Same way the Brits treated the Catholics in NI.”
Yeah, my wife and her family are Irish, and none of them are particularly “warm” for the Brits. Makes me wonder sometimes why she married me, because my progenitors came from Britain. Too late now, we’re working on year #52.
“Too late now, were working on year #52.”
OUTSTANDING!!!
Government provided healthcare requires death panels like England’s. Woe to be a sick child there.
The reality is that both of these children -- Gard and Evans -- would have died months earlier were it not for a government-run health care system that covered the cost of their medical care. I'm sure their families were huge advocates for this massive secular bureaucracy when it was paying these medical bills ... right up until the moment the bureaucrats decided to pull the plugs.
You’re probably right but the horrible thing to me is not that, in their judgment, Evans would never recover and therefore should be removed from life support, but that they have effectively kidnapped the boy to prevent the parents from taking him somewhere that is willing to at least try to save him, because if that were successful, it would make the NHS look awfully bad.
Queen Elizabeth II failed to preserve the old British spirit, and the prime ministers with a handful of exceptions have all failed too.
That’s right, tens of millions of American “citizens” will always be enchanted with the welfare state and want just one more program that will finally affect them financially.
