95% of plastic polluting world's oceans comes from just 10 rivers

Up to 95 per cent of plastic polluting the world’s oceans pours in from just ten rivers, according to new research.

The top 10 rivers – eight of which are in Asia – accounted for so much plastic because of the mismanagement of waste.

About five trillion pounds is floating in the sea, and targeting the major sources – such as the Yangtze and the Ganges – could almost halve it, scientists claim.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt flew in coach-class seats on at least two trips home to Oklahoma when taxpayers weren’t footing the bill, despite claims he needed to travel in first class at government expense because of security threats.

Yangtze East China Sea Asia

Indus Arabian Sea Asia

Yellow River Yellow Sea Asia

Hai He Yellow Sea Asia

Nile Mediterranean Africa

Ganges Bay of Bengal Asia

Pearl River South China Sea Asia

Amur Sea of Okhotsk Asia

Niger Gulf of Guinea Africa

Mekong South China Sea Asia

Well ... would it help if we de-industrialize America and tax ourselves into oblivion? Because I suspect that’s going to be the suggested solution.

So we need to send some enzymes to the plastic patch in the Pacific then? Still waiting for the pictures of it from the ISS. Or does the ISS NOT pass over it ever. Someplace I saw that it’s bigger than Texas so it’d be hard to miss right?

Lol! My leftie daughter just gave me a lecture on how horrible it was that Americans use plastic straws, because of the massive damage they do to the oceans. I told her I suspected they were a relatively minor contributor. Turns out dumb old dad was probably right.

Fake news. EVERYONE knows that the U.S. and especially, White, Christian Men are to blame for the plastics pollution.

Nice try science, you can't fool "social justice"...

Wait...wait “Pruitt...flew home in...coach-class seat.”

I wont’ call it “fake news” but this story seems like a lot of fluff wrapped around a very important message — Scott Pruitt likes Coach Class! First Class Hotels and Flights? It’s my secretaries fault!! Don’t Fire me! It’s (sob) not my fault!!

I think it is amazing that the Amazon is NOT in the top ten.
Doesn’t the Amazon drain more land mass then any other river?

Asia and Africa are full of precious minorities. We should not criticize them! Instead, we should raise taxes on Americans to pay for the cleanup of the oceans because their culture is the same as ours...if not superior!

Ganges Bay of Bengal Asia

~~~~
Don’t Hindu’s have to swim in the Ganges as a form of religious purification or something of that nature?
