PHOENIX (AP) It's still unclear what caused the death of a Phoenix police dog sent into a home to force the surrender of suspect who was the subject of a pursuit.
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton says Bane, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, "died protecting his fellow officers and our city."

OK, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, show America, That K-9s are COPS to! Give that poor K-9, a full Police Funeral.
Why did the cops shoot their own dog, mistaken identity?
Don’t you agree?
I hope youre being sarcastic. Its a dog.
There’s a great book out titled “Suspect” by Robert Crais - it’s about a Belgian Malinois named Maggie. It’s about a rehabilitated injured bomb sniffing (Afghanistan) dog that was later trained to became a police dog. The story is from Maggie’s point of view.
“Why did the cops shoot their own dog, mistaken identity?”
They are trained to reflexively shoot any dogs on the scene without thinking.
Honor all who serve.
All this sugar-coating verbiage "gave his life protecting his fellow officers blahblah" would make me think it was the officers that killed the dog and not the crook.
It just bothers me that they can't even knock off the political sensitivity jargon to discuss a dead police dog - like the dog or its family might have their feelings hurt or try to sue.
So they are trained to kill family members. They should expect repercussions.
If a police officer goes into an unknown building to confront anyone in there, is he not doing his job? And, since it was known that there was a felon inside possibly armed, he is doing it to protect all from possible bodily harm or death. So, if a dog goes into the same building to do the same thing, and all he has is his teeth, is that not trying to accomplish the same result to include that police officer that would have had to go in instead? They don’t get medals, they don’t get raises, they don’t get promoted, but they do it anyway.
And at some point, everyone has to ask the question, did that dog going in there, just like his officer would have, save lives down the road? You can bury an officer with honors. The dogs should have a special place among the other officers laid to rest so people can appreciate our K-9 friends. I know the relatives of the officers there do.

Not according to the Coward County Sheriff's Dept...

Of course not...That dog is sent in there to kill someone...And at that point, it is likely anyone it comes in contact with...What if there were kids in there???
A VERY Expensive & highly trained dog.
Worth more than 20% +++ of the current population of the USA.
Where did I miss the police shot the dog?
So sad. Charge the sickos with murder of a police officer.
MORE wonderful illegals at work, no doubt.
That's ridiculous. The dog was sent into the attic to locate and subdue the suspect.
I have Malinois, and they are better than 50% of the population.
Amazing how many feel the need to comment on this story and prove that they aren’t half the wits they think they are.
