Dick’s Sporting Goods announced on Monday it will destroy all of the unsold firearms it pulled off store shelves in February after the deadly Parkland school shooting.
The sports retailer decided to destroy the assault-style rifles instead of returning them to the manufacturer, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported. On Feb. 28, 2018, the Pittsburgh-based company announced it would immediately stop selling assault-style rifles and ban the sale of all guns to anyone under 21. It was not immediately clear how many firearms will be destroyed.
“We are in the process of destroying all firearms and accessories that are no longer for sale as a result of our February 28th policy change,” a spokesperson from Dick’s Sporting Goods told the media outlet. “We are destroying the firearms in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations.”
The rifles will be demolished at distribution centers and then delivered to a salvage company to be recycled.

I hope they don’t plan on taking this as a business loss on their income taxes. It’s a self-imposed business loss.
They are free to destroy their property. Stupid but it’s their choice. Same reason it’s my choice to never darken their doors again.
New slogan for them: “That’s why we’re Dicks”!
They are a private company—and I hope they don’t mind if I spit on their sidewalk every time I pass their store (never to enter it—ever). :-)

Same thought. They are publicly traded and are deliberately destroying inventory and profits. Maybe a class action lawsuit could be put together.
A good time to get those “Going out of Business Forever” signs painted up too.

Then it’s not “Dick’s Sporting Goods” anymore; a more appropriate name would be “Little Richard’s Outdoor Chic Boutique.”

Didn’t they do something similar after the Sandy Hook shooting? I just seem to recall their name being tossed around when they come up with some change in their policy then.

Quick liquidate my stock in them. That type of management is begging to be bankrupt in a few months.

I predict Dick’s Sporting will be seeking bankruptcy by the end of the President’s first term.
