North and South Korea are preparing to officially end the war when their two leaders - Dictator Kim Jong-Un and President Moon Jae-in - meet next week.

The two Koreas are technically still at war as the 1950-53 Korean conflict ended with a truce, not a peace treaty.

South Korean media reports that the two sides had been discussing plans for a permanent end to the war at the North-South summit, citing an unidentified Seoul official.

Sorry, but that is a piece of paper. It's symbolic but meaningless. There would be nothing stopping aggression the very next day because they are two different systems that cannot co-exist.

This is the real issue: "Last week, Secretary of State nominee CIA Director Mike Pompeo said North Korea should not expect rewards from talks until it takes irreversible steps to give up its nuclear weapons."

Then we can go home.

Yeah - we’re still in Germany, but they were preparing to take over a lot in ‘89 when the wall came down. Then they canceled equipment they were UNDER CONTRACT to buy. I almost lost my job back then.

This is potentially great news if done right.

The trick is to do it right.

Korea's Moon is essentially a communist and has been sympathetic to the North Korean regime so the danger is that, in the end game, the two Koreas merge into what amounts to a more capable communist state, with both Koreas Finlandized as vassel states by China.

I’m not up on South Korean K-Pop singers. To me, it looks like someone dancing by the numbers.

I bet this is fake good news. This will bite Trump in the ass if he tries to ride this news.

"Does it mean we can finally remove the thousands of American troops and quit paying the billions it costs to post them there? Or does that go on forever?"

If they actually de-nuclearize and if they actually pull troops and weapons systems back from the DMZ and all of this is inspected and confirmed (a lot of ifs there), I think we would pull some of our troops out. But not all the way back to the states, maybe to Guam. These troops are not just there as a tripwire for North Korea, but as a deterrent and to defend our interests in the Pacific region.

As people have mentioned, we still have troops stationed all over the world. We start pulling troops back and then our allies may start looking for other partners (China) to work with and not necessarily us. We have a lot of trade at stake there. The reason the British had a huge navy for all of those years was not to protect everyone else's interests, but their own. Like them, we have to work with our partners in all these regions to keep sea lanes and air lanes open for trade and travel, etc...

Peace is more important than my job - I realize how selfish that came out. I’m ‘stoked’ that President Trump could add this to his accomplishments ...

I didn’t mean it like that. I don’t like to hear of anyone losing a job. I don’t trust that this is good news, and will work out.
