Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has spoken with people in the West Wing and in Congress about a new plan to knock the Russia investigation off the rails, according to a new report.
The Washington Post reported Wednesday night Bannon has a proposal he is presenting to people in President Donald Trump's circle. The plan is designed to protect Trump as the Department of Justice probe into Russia collusion continues.
The multi-pronged approach, according to the Post, includes firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, instructing the White House to stop cooperating with FBI special counsel Robert Mueller, and asking Trump to cite executive privilege both forward and backward, which would make interviews Mueller's team has conducted with White House staffers inadmissible to the investigation.
"The president wasn't fully briefed by his lawyers on the implications" of not invoking executive privilege, Bannon told the Post. "It was a strategic mistake to turn over everything without due process, and executive privilege should be exerted immediately and retroactively."
Bannon also suggested Trump should fire Ty Cobb, a member of the White House legal team working on the Russia matter.
Rosenstein is supervising Mueller's Russia investigation, which began last spring over allegations Trump's campaign colluded with Russia. Rosenstein signed off on the search warrant that led to Monday's raids at two offices, an apartment, and a hotel room tied to Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen.
Trump has indicated he might fire Mueller, which according to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is not allowed under the Code of Federal Regulations. Other reports say Trump may fire Rosenstein, which would be legal.
Bannon has yet to bring his ideas to Trump himself, according to the Post, instead having conversations with others over the phone and in person.

I agree. I also think Trump should hire the best PR people he can to counter the continuous onslaught of hatred from the media. The truth is on his side, and our side, but it’s not being told.
Don’t worry. It’s just a dumb quote from a Jim Carey movie.
Schumer needs to go back to New York and finish the job he was originally elected to do - engineer the movement of blacks out of Jewish neighborhoods.
Impeachment has nothing to do with the law. It is not about illegal actions but politics.
High crimes and misdemeanors are whatever the Congress says they are.
There is a coup in process. The deep state is trying to off-set the election, a historic first.
Do it now before it is too late.Start telling America why it has to be this new way...what is at stake. Who is waiting to take over...better tell the truth now; there may not be another chance.
Good idea.
“Can someone explain why Mueller being fired is supposedly illegal?”
Current investigation in process. The deep state would just bring on another investigator. My bet would be McCabe.
Can it be done retroactively? I imagine that question would be in the courts before the sound of the President's voice ordering it faded.
Maybe Steve can go into more detail next time he has a heart to heart with Michael Wolff. Partisan Media Shills on parade. Thanks BurgessKoch.
I wish Bannon and Trump could make nicey nice.
At the federal prosecutors office in the Southern District of New York, the staff, over beer and pretzels, used to play a darkly humorous game. Junior and senior prosecutors would sit around, and someone would name a random celebritysay, Mother Theresa or John Lennon. It would then be up to the junior prosecutors to figure out a plau- sible crime for which to indict him or her. The crimes were not usually rape, murder, or other crimes youd see on Law & Order but rather the incredibly broad yet obscure crimes that populate the U.S. Code like a kind of jurisprudential minefield: Crimes like false statements (a felony, up to five years), obstructing the mails (five years), or false pretenses on the high seas (also five years). The trick and the skill lay in finding the more obscure offenses that fit the character of the celebrity and carried the toughest sen- tences. The result, however, was inevitable: prison time,
Let's get this sh!t over with!
Throw down Mr. Trump, you were never good playing defense anyway.
This strategy plays right into the leftists narrative and agenda: if Trump does all those things or even one, at this time at least, the non-stop headlines from the media shills will be, Trump stonewalls investigation in dictator-like move by... (insert point or points from strategy above).
We (I) either have faith he did nothing wrong or not. I have faith hes done nothing wrong. Ergo, turning over all those documents wasnt wrong, and not firing anyone (except for maybe Sessions) isnt wrong either.
Doing anything to hamper the investigation gives the leftists exactly what they want. It doesnt matter that it would be sound legal strategy.
Its called bad optics what Bannon proposes.
Bannon needs to butt out.
Or at least only convey whatever questionable advice confidentially.
Mueller shouldn't be fired...He should be congratulated...
President Trump should send him a note thanking him for his commitment to finalizing and exhausting his lengthy investigation into the charge of collusion with Russia...Perhaps give Mueller a week to provide what he found and then again thank Mueller for exonerating Trump...
Inform Mueller he is free now to seek employment else ware or sign up at the local Manpower office...
And then, fire Rosenstein and re-assign Sessions to a new position, in the basement...
Yes.
I just read the first section of Bannon’s bio on Wiki- I like him even more now, (will finish it later) and Wiki confirms to me that we need him and more like him on Trump’s staff.
>> Bannon . . . was the architect of Trump victory <<
Good morning Steve!
