HONOLULU (AP) The house made famous in the "Magnum P.I." TV series has been scheduled for demolition.
Hawaii News Now reported Tuesday that a demolition permit was issued last week because the building is in disrepair.
The 8,900 square-foot (827-square-meter) Waimanalo mansion was purchased for $8.7 million in 2015 by Marty Nemolitsbitt.

Practice for upcoming demolitions?
That’s too bad. It’s probably best not to buy a home that you can’t afford to maintain. Or perhaps there were other circumstances, such as illness.

The guesthouse was just a set and long gone.

My bet is Barry is getting a new vacation mansion.
Was it associated with the Confederacy?
He probably bought it for the value of the site, with the intention of demolishing the house if it couldn’t be renovated at a reasonable cost.
I always liked that house.
IIRC, I read somewhere that the beach on the property depicted in the show was actually a very small one, despite how it may have been presented.
A long time ago I bought a fairly small but perfectly reasonable suburban house.About 20 years later I was told that it was worth about 6 times what I paid for it so I sold.Six months later I drove by and found a McMansion on the lot (about 1/4 acre).
Friends of mine just sold their home in central Charlotte as a “knockdown.” The house was falling down around them - which is why they wanted to move - but the lot was worth enough that their profit bought two new vehicles and about half the price of a new house in the ‘burbs.
The area where I lived in Morgan Hill, CA from 83 to 94 started putting McMansions on 1/4 acre lots. It looked like 8 from the building to the lot line.
Sold the house for twice what I paid for it, and bastard who bought it, sold it a year and a half later for $130k more!
So happy to escape CA for New Hampshire! And there is nothing there I need to go back for!
Forbes reports the Obama fortune at $2.9 billion
Nesbitt is a crony capitalist discussed in Peter Schweizer’s new book. The Obama admin arbitrarily decided that it was going to prevent the University of Phoenix from receiving GI bill money for tuition. The stock price in the university dropped from around $100 x share to about $3. Nesbitt’s Vistria Group bought it for pennies on the dollar, shortly after which the Obama admin decided it was ok to lift the suspension on GI bill money and the stock shot back up again.
yes
See Forbes billionaires issue
FWIW, latest figs I can find suggest about $40 mil. Though that’s bad enough.
Should have been protected as a historical site.
Of course if its important or liked by America Obama has to knock it down.
The gift that still hasn’t ended?
