Will the Navy Sink Obama’s “Green” Policies?
Capital Research Center ^ | April 4, 2018 | by Haelena Bondi-Camacho

Lingering “environmentally-friendly” policies from the Obama administration that sailed under the false colors of “national security” might be on their way out.

The U.S. Navy recently announced that it is canceling a “green” Obama-era fuel-efficiency project for its fleet of destroyers. The project’s aim was to “install fuel-efficient hybrid electric drives in 34 destroyers.” The program has spent approximately $52 million so far, but the Navy “zeroed out funding in 2019” for the project when problems began to arise. A Navy official noted that the hybrid electric drives created an “intense electrical load” on the destroyer and weren’t as fuel efficient as some had hoped.

While using hybrid electric drives and other “sustainable” products in the military isn’t necessarily a bad thing, these projects need to be thoughtfully continued or canceled to ensure that progress is made in the name of national security and efficiency rather than in the name of politics.

The lasting question here is how long will these “green” and Obama-era policies stick around, and when will the military be allowed to shift its focus to enhancing national security rather than propping up an anemic industry in the name of politics?

“””fuel-efficiency project for its fleet of destroyers”””

52 million and it didn’t work. Probably never meant to work. Just meant to weaken the USA.

When I was in I gave them an idea for warships powered entirely by the wind. They said it would never work.

Why would you put electric hybrids on a boat and reduce it’s capacity by adding all that fargin bulk with batteries?

I worry that one of the reasons our military planes are falling from the sky is due to BIOFUELS! Corn or soy oils in diesel tend to make it jell and doesn’t work well in machinery not designed for it any better than alcohol in gasoline does. Both reduce performance and cost more per gallon.

Like from an insurance perspective, the 0bama regime years should basically be considered an $8 Trillion total loss.

Too bad we have no actual insurance policy to make a claim or be made whole again.

Isn’t bio jet fuel $65 per gallon?

I hope they sink those stupid policies.
The Military should always prioritize RELIABLE over green.

If you are Barack Obama you would do it because one or more of your butt-buddies is involved in the “green energy” fraud - I mean, “business” - no, I mean fraud - and you want to line his/their pockets with millions, if not hundreds of millions, of taxpayer dollars (less your kick-back of course).

What a progressive idea.

We could build a whole fleet of wind powered warships - and we'll call them "sailing vessels", or perhaps "Tall Ships" (because of the huge masts they will have to support their sails).

Isn't this new age of technology just amazing?

... ;-)

SMH... Enough with the environmental BS. If we have jet fighters in the air so much that it’s causing environmental damage - then we’ve got bigger problems.

I think the last thing the countries adversaries would be impressed about about regarding our weapons systems is that they might be “earth-friendly” or even bio-degradable.

Our enemies are bio-degradable! We should employ more systems to recycle them!
