I dont mind saying that this column represents a grossly understated review of Discrimination and Disparities, just published by my longtime friend and colleague Dr. Thomas Sowell. In less than 200 pages, Sowell lays waste to myth after myth not only in the United States but around the globe.
One of those myths is that but for the fact of discrimination, wed all be proportionately represented in socio-economic characteristics, such as career, income, education and incarceration. The fact of business is that there is no evidence anywhere on earth, at any time in human history, that demonstrates that but for discrimination, there would be proportionate representation in anything by race, sex, nationality or any other human characteristic. Sowell shows that socio-economic outcomes differ vastly among individuals, groups and nations in ways that cannot be explained by any one factor, whether its genetics, discrimination or some kind of exploitation.

Oh, how I wish our politicians had the wisdom and courage of Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell.
I have immense respect for both Thomas Sowell & Walter Williams.
That will be when rainbow unicorns become the national animal. That’s how much hope I hold out for current pols to have the kind of smarts these two guys do.
PING jazusamo
Locally, if a bank or other business were faced with providing credit to an Amish, a White, an Hispanic or a Black, the Amish would be given preferential treatment. Why? Because they are White? Nope. They would certainly pay back, on time and with no issues.
Careful with the use of “Amish” around here. LOL!
I’ve seen processing jobs done by Mennonites (mostly younger people) and also by typical locals (all ages). Such a huge difference in work ethic, efficiency, courtesy and cleanliness, it blew me away the first time I saw the difference.
Typical American society has devolved greatly under our ‘progressives’.
"PC Thought Police" will be knocking on your door at midnight... and they're NOT nice people...
We have tons of Amish and Mennonite here. I have worked with them for decades. The definition of work ethics is a living example.
They have their very small segment of non-representative individuals. But, those who get out of line are quite firmly dealt with within the community at large.
HA....just sent to my indoctrinated niece saying...”Two black guys you may want to read” (She believes in “Systemic Racism”)
Couple of Uncle Toms. LOL! Maybe she’ll get “woke”.
That’s a great idea!
Funny how the groups with high work and social ethics and morality are also highly Judeao-Christian religious, ain’t it?
Dr. Williams writes an excellent piece on Dr. Sowell's new book "Discrimination and Disparities."
Alas, it will likely only be read by those already inclined to agree.
I’d like to send it to a particular SJW administrator at Cornell, but doubt she’d bother reading it - being so self-assured of her own bigotry.
I’m baffled how few grasp the value of hard, neat work.
And...his, ‘Basic Economics’ is a MUST READ for everyone.
Good reviews of this new book so far:
