Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, who was married to the late Nelson Mandela, has died after a long illness, her family confirm.
Her family said she died "peacefully" after a long illness.
They said she had been "in and out of hospital since the start of the year".

Well, that’s one way of looking at her. When I heard the news, I thought of how blessed South Africa is, with a ‘founding mother’ like Winnie and a constitution that is a model for the world, whereas we have to plod along with Martha Washington (who used to be on our stamps and currency and celebrated in our schools) and a Constitution that was written by old dead white guys with old-fashioned ideas of liberty and individual freedom.
