The hypocrisy of the environmental left is well documented: Al Gore, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the other Hollywood eco-saints travel far and wide in their gas-guzzling limos and private jets to preach the importance of riding bicycles and to spread the gospel of wind and solar power.
However, perhaps more astounding than their "green life for thee, but not for me" lifestyle is the reality that environmental radicals, despite all their hollering to the contrary, don't actually want truly cheap and renewable energy. In fact, the creation of affordable, clean, widely available energy is one of their greatest fears.
On March 9, a team from MIT and Commonwealth Fusion Systems announced in the academic journal Nature that they are closer than ever to making nuclear fusion a reality. If successful, nuclear fusion would provide incredibly cheap, environmentally friendly energy to the world and the researchers believe that the technology could be ready for a commercial rollout in as few as fifteen years.
As Fox News noted in a recent report on the potential discovery, "[n]uclear fusion is the be-all and end-all source of energy because, in theory, it's practically unlimited and has almost no downside. It doesn't put carbon into the atmosphere like the burning of fossil fuels or generate radioactive waste like nuclear fission, which is the technology in current nuclear power plants."
If nuclear fusion is achieved, it will in relatively short order render much of the existing energy market useless. Many traditional power plants would close. Carbon dioxide emissions would be cut dramatically in countries with enough wealth to build nuclear fusion plants. Billions of people would have access to affordable energy that they never had before.

Yep, expanding numbers in the human race is not a positive for them, and cheap unlimited power would mean more humans to destroy the earth. Or so their narrative of fear goes.
Cheap and abundant energy is freedom and prosperity for the “great unwashed” masses... it’s the LAST thing the “I want to control every aspect of your lives” Leftist fascists want! #RustyIrony!
Wake me up when I can get a Mr. Fusion down at Walmart.
Been hearing that for 50 years.
Yes. Cut Carbon Dioxide emissions and see the impact on the trees and plants.
Go for it, you desciples of the law of unintended consequenses.
You obviously never played Pickup Sticks as a kids!
I’m all of the above. Fusion can co-exist with plant food. Sometimes plant food emitting sources might actually be less expensive and more convenient than fusion, maybe in the Appalachians and Rockies, where it could be hard to build the fusion plants?
“Truly Renewable Energy”
Like OIL (there is no “Peak” oil, the earth’s magma creates new oil CONSTANTLY)
Like WOOD (the left, who FORCED plastic bags on us, is now demanding PAPER bags) They finally realized that trees are a CROP! We can grow them faster than we can use them.
Man made CO2 ???? Globull warming??? C’mon Man you know that’s just a LIE.
The environ-MENTAL-ists do not think ahead very well. Nuclear fusion could also propel our spacecraft to other worlds for colonization, should we ultimately become too numerous for da erf to support us. And we do have birth control. Duh.
The Left already started this narrative that we must reduce the population of the world. They have suggested Euthanasia, and they have pushed abortion. They only thing left for them is selected extermination. But people like Gore and the others want others to die off, so they can continue in their rich lifestyle. They want the wars to continue in Africa, and they want Africans to kill each other off. They want Muslims to invade Europe and kill off a few million, and they want more wars in the ME to kill off a few more million. Kind of reminds me of Stalin, kill off those you don’t want.
Countries could also use the energy to desalinate and purify lots and lots of water.
Might as well not even attempt it if it won’t be available for 15 years. I believe 10 years is the cut-off. Anything 10 or more you just don’t do.
Per the 2015 DOE summary: solar provides 2.3% of the nation’s energy and wind provides 0.6% of the nation’s electricity (rounded down to 0% statistically). Yet Crapachusetts is covered with solar farms and gigantic wind turbines — except on the Cape, where Kennedys, Kerrys, and other swells don’t want to have to look at them.
This goes back to a time when public utilities use to plan for growth and build power plants to support the population in CA that was anticipated.
The environmentalists quickly moved to take over the utility. Their position was always, if you plan for growth, you will encourage growth because people will know that their new homes will have enough power, water, Etc.
So this concept of abundant electricity generation is not a new threat. They (the environmentalists) have always been aware that they are really for limiting population growth. Make the world nasty for people and encourage abortion and small families. Lets have over crowding and potholes and long commutes. Have ass transit but don’t make it safe, cheap, and comfortable. Do what you can to make people rebel.
Now, what about immigration? Well the Sierra Club considered that at one time and voted to be neutral about migration to the US. (Yeah, that’s right. The people are not new people, they are already born and when they get here they will vote for democrats and as we know democrats want what is best for the world.
Make no mistake, they have not changed any of their thought processes and Paul Ehrlich has not been disavowed.
Liberals are mere mortals even if they think otherwise.
Generally as electricity consumption increases fertility goes down. The best form of birth control is a 100w light bulb.
...and a TV.
Environmentalism is a trick to mask making the UN into a World feudalist government. The fascist oligarchy are monopolist war lords pining for a return to the 12th century.
