Americans love their cars. The United States has one of the highest car ownership rates per capita in the world. We're a mobile culture and we like it that way. But a tax-per-mile plan being pushed by Republican Rep. Sam Graves of Missouri might have drivers re-thinking those weekend joyrides instead of feeling all the pain at the pump.

>>They want to do the same thing in WA. Tax the state drivers per mile but out of state people wont pay the tax. Theyll get a free ride. Then too the lawmakers say the gas tax will come off. Right.<<
It also punishes people with high MPG vehicles.
The gasoline tax is the fairest one of all.
They pay whatever gas tax that state has. I’m talking about out of state drivers getting a free ride of our low gas prices because the tax per mile will remove the gas tax, so our political overlords say.
They already know where you are. Specifically YOU! LOL! Any current vehicle probably has some tracking device in the software. OnStar SatNav etc. Your phone.
The thing is: the state will require transponders on your car that monitor not only how many miles you drive but where you drove and what speed you drove and it ties into the state patrol. It’s all for safety and the children.
How will Asshats count the miles on lawnmowers, boats, and ATVs? Will boat’s nautical miles be counted the same as land miles? What about miles, downhill coasting or idling for 15 minutes at RR crossings?
May I suggest a TAX on words, by asshat Congress Critters!
Interesting these asshats think it’s just a matter of joyrides and pleasure driving. Many of us have long commutes to work.
Vote that POS out and anyone else who pushes this.
Nope, my vehicle is too old and I have a burner.
President Trump would have LOST in a landslide if this had been on the R agenda in 2016.
Within 10 years, this will be everywhere. Frustrating!!!!
Hall Monitor, Blackboard Cleaner. At least once a week, found stuffed in a locker.
If it moves, tax it.....

That is the real end-game. They can’t GPS chip you at birth (although some parents do — ones whose paranoia is greater than their love of liberty), so they want to officially monitor your travels.
I am so glad my cars don’t have GPS and one is too old to even have the electronic black box.
How does he plan to tax Bus riders and those sidewalk damaging walkers ?
They are trying to achieve a Rabbit Warren for everyone but themselves!
Would tax-per-mile apply to Semis, too? Which of their paymasters come up with these ideas?
Stupid RINO
This guy needs to be taken out behind the woodshed!
Missouri’s DOT is part of the problem.
Gas tax money that should go to roads is diverted to bike paths, airport approaches and other “popular” endeavors.
“Youre going to put a GPS thing in my car and track my every motion?
No.”
But it was well liked by the test subjects, whomever those government employees were LOL.
