The U.S. House of Representatives passed the STOP School Violence Act with overwhelming bipartisan support Wednesday afternoon.
Florida Reps. John Rutherford (R) and Ted Deutch (D) introduced the bill prior to the shooting in Parkland, Florida, and Rutherford addressed the media following Wednesdays vote.
The action that the House just took, I think, is an important first help forward in protecting our children, our teachers and other administrators within our schools, Rutherford stated. Because its going to not only harden the target through technology, but most importantly, I believe, its going to provide the tools and education needed...
Violence at schools makes students feel vulnerable in a place where they should feel safe. To curb violence at our nations schools, the STOP School Violence Act provides a multi-layered approach to identify threats and prevent violence from taking place on school grounds, House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte said in a statement accompanying the passage of the bill. It provides much-needed resources to train students, teachers, and law enforcement officers on how to recognize and respond quickly to warning signs and provides funding for technology to keep schools secure. The bill also provides for the creation of an anonymous reporting system to provide tips about potential attacks and persons who may be inclined to commit acts of violence on campus.
The STOP School Violence Act is a good step toward making our schools safe again. We will continue to examine issues pertaining to school safety in order to create a safer environment for our nations children.
The White House applauded the bills passage as an important step towards keeping American students safe.

Sanders also urged the Senate to vote and pass the bill as soon as possible.
The National Rifle Association also cheered the bills Wednesday passage.

How much money will be wasted on ineffective programs and/or studies? Just so they can say we did something.
They wanted grant money from that Obama program. They ought to abolish it. It encourages corruption and ultimately caused 17 deaths.
Besides, the good ones might get hurt;-}
More useless waste of taxpayer dollars with feel good legislation.
There’s already plenty of stuff in place to keep schools safer.
They just have to DO IT!!!!!!!
There were plenty of warning signs with Cruz and they were all ignored.
Not even overlooked or missed.
IGNORED.
If they’d stop ignoring this kind of stuff and actually act on what they’ve been told, they’d have prevented it just fine.
Get your kids out of public schools now.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
I don’t suppose they are even considering a Do Your Freaking Job, FBI Act are they?
Talk and wasted money or real action? Like sidelining threats like Cruz before they can act? And teaching students? How about teaching them responsibility/accountability, gun safety, self-defense, rather than simply being snowflakes or sheep waiting for the slaughter?
We really need to convince these little liberal programmed, house apes to stop killing each other. That’s going to take parents so that isn’t going to work.
Gee....Almost sounds like common sense.....and something that should have ALWAYS been in place.
Typical government “feel-good” BS. Spend taxpayers’ money on this BS? Disgusting but typical.

>> “The National Rifle Association also cheered the bills Wednesday passage” <<
The National Rifle Association also wrote, promoted, cheered the passage of the 1968 Gun Control Act.
Gun Owners of America is the org that actively and honestly defends and promotes our gun rights. What did they have to say?
.
“..local police...”
To be fair, the ONLY ones who DID respond and went in were the local cops, while the “Resource Officer” (armed, and with body armor) and three Sheriff deputies (armed, and with body armor) pissed down their legs behind their cars ... you know, the cars with “To Serve and Protect” written on the doors...
Give the local cops credit for having balls. They did their job.

>> “Typical government ‘feel-good’ BS.” <<
Exactly.
.
It’s maddening.
The pro school violence bill didn’t pass.
You might say it was shot down...by a fully auto with extra fast bullets.
There needs to be a refundable tax credit per student per year so parents can send their daughters and sons to safe private schools instead of dangerous government schools.
I agree. Public Schools are not safe, corrupt, and just leftist indoctrination centers.
