President Trump plans to unveil a proposal on Sunday that would encourage school systems around the country to allow armed staff on school premises, The Wall Street Journal reports.
According to The Journal, the plan will signal the president's support for two bills currently in Congress as well as setting up a commission to identify grant money for school systems that find a way to issue concealed-carry permits to some staff members to help guard against school shootings.
The two bills currently being considered by Congress would improve the nation's background check system and authorize $50 million for school safety improvements. The plan does not address a number of issues supported by gun control advocates, including a ban on bump stocks or raising the minimum age required to purchase a rifle to 21.
The Justice Department, however, is considering a measure that would ban bump-stock weapons as part of an existing ban on machine guns, the Journal reported Saturday.
President Trump is absolutely committed to ensuring the safety and security of every American, and he has directed us to propose a regulation addressing bump stocks, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said.

Imagine, allowing a teacher to take advanced training, submission to background and fingerprint checks; just so they can have equal footing to their non-law abiding students
Good point. But what is advanced training, exactly? Sounds like feel good bs that does not actually exist. And even if it did, how much time, money, and effort would certification require, PLUS the soul sucking financial and legal liability that comes with carrying a gun around a bunch of peoples kids, daily, in the 0.0001% chance that your school gets shot up... Im not seeing many teachers doing that. Or not any smart ones.
Imagine, you are on govt property with children in a high stakes game of legal jeopardy with no color of law immunity; I mean, sign me up for some of that kick in the gonads civil and legal action. I cant get enough.
Besides, who pays for, issues, and has the authority to withdraw the weapon and the authority to carry it? The principal? Its all dumb and misses the point.
We have trained people to do exactly the wrong thing and that is to try to get away. Everyone should immediately close on the shooter. Yes the shooter might get one or two people but even they might survive since they would already be moving in. It only takes a split second for multiple people to close in and subdue a single person. More importantly once crazies know this is what will happen they won't even do it to begin with.
Once we make it known to all the would be lone gunman mass murderers that as soon as they fire the first shot they will be ATTACKED from every direction they will cease having ideas of these mass shooting all together. The last thing these nut jobs want is a fight, especially a fight they know they won't win. They want people to panic and wait to die so they can kill then either kill themselves or get killed by the police. They DO NOT want to get jumped on restrained then spend the rest of their miserable lives in prison. That fear alone will stop these shootings.
Now if you want to arm teachers or people at work fine but it's not really needed when you are talking about a lone gunman. Mace or a taser combined with everyone closing on the shooter would be just as effective if not more. The lone gunman mass murderer is the EASIEST of all killers to stop. Much easier problem than say stopping a 2 ton truck mowing down people on a sidewalk or a terrorist planting a bomb. Those problems are hard to solve.
I like arming teachers.
Just mak it so no one knows who is armed. Kind of like the Marshall on a plane.
Make it a biometrics gun. So only the teacher can use it.
Let’s get national reciprocity in this package; CCW holders are part of the answer, not the problem.
>The answer to a lone gunman is very simple. Everyone jump on the shooter
Yep. The human instinct is the wrong one here; people, especially young people, can close the distance way faster than the bad guy can act.
You’re right, I forgot about the specialized training. Around here, the local counties take turns teaching Active Shooter classes...that anyone with a CPL can take. And yes, I agree it would be nice to be paid for the day and the ammo!
Biometrics guns do not work. The technology is not ready, and from every report Ive seen, they fail. Further, if such technology existed, we would have idiots in Congress trying to be an existing guns in favor of those biometric guns.
“Having a concealed carry permit should be a requirement for getting a teaching credential.”
THIS!
Yep, Trump implementing the Hope and Change Obama set him up to as a trap.
Encourage school shooting terrorists to go to school through diversity and then put Trump to the wall
Is Trump serious about tackling the swamp? He has been very vague on gun rights, like a bad date
Ridiculous. A tall order for a cowardly kid to bother attempting disarming a teacher. Beaises Teachers will conceal carry and not open carry like a cop, and some will not, the perp no knowing.
Are you saying the cop on campus get disarmed and shot? Never happened and they open carry
I can bump fire all day without a bump stock. It is not a machine gun because the trigger is pulled for each shot. And it has been used by returning vets with hand prosthesis in semi auto fashion
.
Legislation, Constitution, Toilet paper!
.
.
Biometric sensors on guns end the open carry problem.
This is a potential case for their use.
.
Yeah. You are right. There are no assaults on teachers in schools.
Yup, you can bumpfire without a special stock. However, the fact remains that the ATF banned it before and it was Obama’s ATF that unbanned it, perhaps out of stupidity or perhaps deliberately.
Honestly, if returning the bumpstock to the banlist gets us national mandatory CCW reciprocity, armed (qualified) teachers and an end to gun free zones, I think that’s probably a good trade to make at this time. We can revisit the bumpstock later.
I like arming teachers.

Me too and so does my daughter, a h.s. teacher in Mo. She’s licensed to carry, even though Mo. no longer requires a license. I might add, she’s an excellent shot. Started shooting pistol at about 10 years old, under my supervision and now a better shot than I am.
Don’t even ask her what she thinks about “gun free zones” unless you want a double barrel ear full.
SHAME ON THOSE AR 15S
FOR WHAT HAPPENED AT THE PARKLAND SCHOOL
BLAME GUNS
NOT
PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT POLICIES FAILURES
THAT
MUST BE HIDDEN/S
The inability to counter this perverted (they call progressive) agenda created by the democratic party ( in name only) has its goose stepping adherents in the media left make it up as guns and the NRA garbage through their swill mills. When it should be contested by GOP state and federal legislators who should be demanding investigative hearings exposing policy failures
DONT MENTION THIS
Besides examining the conduct ( cops told not to enter other dept called and does those cops disciplined because they did) and arrangements of the Broward County Sheriff’s Dept made with this school district performance failures due to policy. A dramatic reduction in disciplinary incidents at Parkland were reported after the selection of Obamas Chicago friend as school superintendent occurred which was publicly acclaimed.
Because that school district was receiving large grant money from Obamas Attorney General because of those results. That many critics claimed encouraged criminal activity. Which should require Trump Administration US Attorney General beside find out why when the FBI knew that Cruz who should not been able to purchase weapons did. And review these grant programs instituted by the previous Obama administration.

Are you dum or what? Assaults have happened on disarmed teachers in gun free zones, not on armed open carry resource officers. That is what I said.
My question was rhetorical, you obviously are rewriting sht to fit your agenda
People continue to underestimate The Donald. The Dems and the fringe left-wing kook groups will NEVER support arming teachers and administrative staff. Because, that takes away an issue they can use! So what Trump is doing is simply putting the Democrats on record.
Trust me, there's not going to be gun control like there was just passed in FL. The Democrats are going to balk at Trump's suggestions, and then Trump will tweet that Democrats aren't interested in solving the issue. JUST LIKE DACA.
