A high school student who survived the deadly Florida shooting on Valentines Day that left 17 people dead has slammed his teacher on social media, calling him an opportunist and a coward, after he allegedly wouldnt unlock his classroom door and let students in, a report from the Sun-Sentinel said on Friday.
Josh Gallagher, a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., shared his account on Twitter. He said he was in math class with his teacher Jim Gard when the fire alarm went off. Students began to evacuate, and while Gallagher was near the stairwell, he said they heard shots being fired.
Kids started to retreat back toward their classroom, Gallagher said, only to find a locked door.
Gallagher, along with more than a dozen other students, was left in the hallways ducking as the screams of classmates and gunshots took over the noise around me, he tweeted. We were stuck in the hall for 4 total minutes ducking and in fear for our lives.
While Gallagher was on the phone with his dad, who he said is a first responder, another teacher who hed never seen before allowed the group of kids to come inside.
After the shooting, Gallagher said he learned that his teacher allegedly ran back into the classroom without turning around and locked his door.
He left 75% of his students out in the hallway to be slaughtered, the student claimed in the post.
Gallagher goes on accuse his teacher of being an opportunist and someone who shouldnt be seen as close to a hero.

That’s nice, kid. Come back when you know what the word opportunist means.
FYI : I survived the deadly Florida shooting on Valentines Day that left 17 people dead.
Thinking of making a T-shirt.
“..as slammed his teacher on social media, calling him an opportunist and a coward, ...”
Hey kid... got news for ya.
Four cowards were wearing body armor, badges, and were armed and hiding outside that day.
A locked door wouldn’t have stopped the psychopath if he wanted in.
Four armed deputies could have, but they chose to... “set up a perimeter” .. instead.
We are now officially in "Lord Of The Flies" territory.
The teacher was right. The student is wrong. In an active shooting situation, once inside a locked room, do not open the door under any circumstances.
Only after the situation is over is it safe to open the door. Didnt we read in one situation the teacher and students demanded that the cop show his ID before they unlocked the door? That is the proper procedure.
Reminds me of a “twilight zone” episode involving a fallout shelter.
“..Reminds me of a twilight zone episode involving a fallout shelter...”
Probably closer to reality than most people realize.
Self-preservation is a strong instinct... maybe even more so when you’re forcibly disarmed by law.
Bet that teacher wished he had a gun at that moment... probably that kid as well.
This teacher will not last long. He has lost the respect and the confidence of the students. Victoria Leigh Soto 1985 - 2012 was the hero.
Not sure I understand the attacks on the kid. The teachers job, at that pint, is to protect the students. If it went down as described, I think he has a very valid point.
THANK YOU!
that is folking bullsh8t you are peddling there, the teacher was an obvious pus8y and the kids are entitled to be protected by their teachers and administrators.
I will never forget an email I received from the pansy as8es at my daughter’s private school during a tornado that the teachers and staff had taken cover in the basement. The morons had to send out a new email that included the students had taken cover too, but the email made it clear it was every depraved selfish turd for themselves in event of danger.
Disgusting lack of spine.
Why does an uneducated, not yet nature kid with an opinion make a “headline”?
“I’m a survivor Of The Parkland Shooting and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt”
I am going to withhold judgement until I hear what Little Boss Hogg has to say. /S
Why didn’t some of these brave snow flakes charge the damn shooter and throw him to the ground?
The teacher was only following protocol. Not opening the door is the command.
The theory is that someone with a gun may be holding the student captive and forcing him to demand entrance.
uh huh, whatever, only a chicken heart locks the door on kids, he knew damn well his whole class wasn’t in the room
I would like to imagine I would charge a shooter, Islamic terrorist or what have you to heroically save the day, but I know that since I haven’t faced such a situation, I’m not sure what I would actually do once the adrenaline and confusion started. And I’m 50, not 17.
“The teacher was only following protocol. Not opening the door is the command.”
I think part of the issue is how quickly he closed the door. Did he give his students time to get back in the room they just left or did he slam the door in their face when they were right behind him?
