The U.S. government has awarded a Montana-based company a contract worth more than $73 million to design and build replacement fencing along 20 miles (32 kilometers) of the U.S.-Mexico border in southern New Mexico, officials confirmed Wednesday.
Existing vehicle barriers west of the Santa Teresa port of entry will be replaced with taller bollard-style barriers.

I expect that a good bit is also quietly happening for contracting in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, but I have not yet heard of the Government waiving the environmental reviews there, like they did for this 20 mile stretch in New Mexico.
Vehicle barrier style, which is being replaced:
Some of the new big, beautiful 30 foot bollards now going up in Calexico, CA:
Get the Israels to do it. They have been doing Border Control for a long time.
$3.65 Mil/mile?
“$3.65 Mil/mile?”
Not a bad price, by historical norms. It was not clear from the article if the new barrier is thirty feet tall, like the new one in Calexico, California is. The article just says “taller” bollard style.
The terrain is pretty easy there, and it sits right next to an existing road.
They are paying $8 Million per mile for the new thirty foot bollards in Calexico, but that includes a new bridge over a small river, and removing more material from the old barrier. Calexico is also a smaller project (2 1/4 miles), so there is less economy of scale for the overhead/set up costs.
There is also no indication that I have seen of what type of lights, sensors or utilities (electrical/communications conduit) might or might not be included in either project. The Calexico project is also more urban.
If it is see through like the sample shown, that is a good thing. It is too easy to sneak up on a solid wall in an isolated area, put up a ladder, or build a ramp to the top. I just hope this company doesn’t belong to one of his cabinet member buddies with 2 full time employees.

All vendors have to be bonded, in case they fail to perform.
These contracts are being managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, with anti-fraud oversight by the Major Procurement Fraud Unit of the US Army Criminal Investigation Command. When vendors first showed up to pre-qualify, they get briefed by the cops, who will be watching them.
It looks like the first contract award in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas will be coming up in a few months as well (estimated 6 May).
I don’t give a hoot how much the border wall costs or who pays for it. I want that thing built. The government pisses away more on chit like transgender studies or some other worthless endeavor.
Agreed
Im thinking that weve got some Landmines stored somewhere that could be put to use.
Ok
True but the Decorum might have to be upgraded.
Doesn’t matter the cost, Mexico is paying /s
Excuse me did I go to DU by mistake? Seems like a conservative site would be cost conscience and concerned about tax $$$$. This kind of thinking got us to the 20 trillion mark. No oversight by the American people and an out of control bureaucratic government
I’m with you on fiscal responsibility. I’m frustrated with the wall not being built. I’ve supported anti illegal immigration causes for years and attended rallies, voted my ass off to get the best law and politician in and what the hell have we got? Millions more illegals and lip service. When your roof leaks you beg, borrow or steal to fix it.
NM ping list.
Well, I guess it is a start. About another 180 miles to go.
I see the wall as an investment. Building it fast is a bigger priority than the costs associated with it. Even if it cost 50 billion, I am quite sure it will pay for itself in many ways just in a matter of years. Between their parasitic welfare scams, drain on schools and public services, voter fraud, and their thousands of felonies.
I think we need to start spreading the rumor that recent polls of illegals show them sympathizing with Republicans by 3 to 1!
Democrats will be pooping themselves to get the wall built!
Will the workers be sympatico with immigrants and do a shiitey job?
Congressman Kennedy and the Democraps want to tear it down.
Excellent.
Barnard construction is one of the best, and Mr. Barnard is a great member of my community.
Very happy to see this!
