President Trump on Wednesday voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates due process rights.
“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida ... to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.
“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.

Watched Senator Murphy from Conn. yap about how “the data” show that we have the most gun violence of any industrialized nation in the world - didn’t explain that there’s a Parkland every month on the streets of Chicago - that the “gun violence” we experience is almost all from illegally obtained - via theft or blackmarket purchase - fire arms and not from legally bought weapons, least of all by “mentally ill’ people - makes my head hurt......
Trump is not defending USConstitution.
Worrying, since if you do not defend USConstitution, you are an enemy of it.

He misspoke, people should be used to this by now. This happened every other day during the campaign. There’s zero chance that due process goes away people, calm yourselves. lol
Exactly. Why would government bother with due process once they are allowed to violate it at will.

It’s out of context.
Scenario is a case where police are called in to a reported threat, and getting a warrant (”due process”) is reasonably expected to take too long before preventing grave harm. Police _do_ have authority to confiscate in such a situation, but the law needs clarification.

I wish I was as certain as you. I’m still hopeful, but I’m no longer certain. Donald Trump was a liberal democrat for a much higher percentage of his life than he has been a conservative republican.

Might be defensible if the one whose guns were grabbed could recover damages and attorney fees after a due process hearing found that he was not dangerous, with treble damages for unjustified seizure for political reasons.
