President Donald Trump criticized police for not doing more to prevent a mass shooting at a Florida high school, arguing they should have taken the shooters guns away whether they had the right or not.
During a bipartisan meeting with lawmakers on gun control Thursday, Trump suggested guns should be taken away immediately from people that you can judge easily are mentally ill, alluding to the Florida shooter, who had undergone a psychiatric evaluation in 2016 but was ultimately not hospitalized.
The police saw that he was a problem, they didnt take any guns away, Trump said. Now that could have been policing, but they should have taken them away anyway, whether they had the right or not.
He doubled down on the claim later in the meeting after Vice President Mike Pence spoke about due process and giving local law enforcement more leeway to obtain a court order to collect firearms from potentially dangerous people.
Mike, take the firearms first and then go to court, because thats another system, Trump said. A lot of times, by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court, to get the due process procedures. I like taking the guns early.

Man, you really got your butt hurt here. Too bad for you.
I stand by my comments here 100%.
You’re a looney tune if you thinks so. Keep evading, it shows what you are.
Stop your crying.
Stop evading. Address the topic.
LOL!

Stop evading. Address the topic.
I’ve been addressing the topic since the beginning of this thread. Try to keep up slick.
“someone really needs to explain just how wrong this line of thinking is.”
Not really. His point is that our mass of procedures and regulations and the fear of disobeying one of them is paralyzing.
Cruz was already on record as having been treated for mental disorder. He lied when he filled out the federal form for purchasing a firearm. He was subject to arrest and confiscation of illegally possessed firearms. If the cops had done their jobs.
If they can take the guns from one person without due process, they can take them all.
But I am not saying they should have done nothing, they should at least have admitted him to a psych ward for 72 hours of observation while the DA sought an order from a judge to remove guns from the home.
I would point my good FREEPer friend eartick to the recent televised meeting with Demon Rat clowns regarding immigration.
Our friends on the right were convinced Trump would cave. He didn’t.
He is smarter than even we sometimes realize.
There was plenty cause to take Cruz’s guns. No question. They should have taken them, no debate. Of course the people down there, including the FBI, local cops, et al, were in a stupor.
I agree, there should be a way to hold him while they get the court order.
There ya go. It’s not complex.
You’re lying again. You haven’t once addressed the topic.
Show me the lie. Quote it.
???
LOL!
I agree. but with DUE PROCESS such as a psych evaluation, investigation and the judge agreeing that he was indeed a threat. As it was, it never went beyond a patrolman’s report. The system failed. The solution isn’t to take away the rights of everyone.
