BREAKING: Jared Kushner's Security Clearance Has Been Downgraded,
Townhall.com ^ | February 27, 2018 | Katie Pavlich

Senior advisor to President Donald Trump, Jared Kusher -- who is also the president's son-in-law -- has officially lost the ability to review sensitive classified information after failing to obtain a permanent security clearance.

Speculation surrounding whether Kushner's permanent security clearance, in addition to temporary clearances held by dozens of White House Staffers, would come through has been swirling for weeks. Last week President Trump said it was up to Chief of Staff John Kelly to determine whether his son-in-law would continue to review classified information.

“That’ll be up to General Kelly. General Kelly respects Jared a lot and General Kelly will make that call. I won’t make that call,” Trump said last week during a press conference with the Australian Prime Minister at the White House.

Previously, Kushner had access to President Trump's daily intelligence briefings and reports. Moving forward, he will not. Ivanka Trump, married to Kusher, has also been working at the White House on a temporary clearance.

More on the background from POLITICO

The White House’s handling of clearances came under scrutiny after reports that Kelly had been aware that former staff secretary Rob Porter, who was accused by his two ex-wives of verbal and physical abuse, did not have a full security clearance in part because of a previous protective order granted during one of his divorces.

The scandal prompted Kelly to crack down on staffers working without full clearance, more than a year into the Trump administration.

In a five-page document released last week, Kelly ordered a series of initiatives aimed at bolstering protocols.

“The American people deserve a White House staff that meets the highest standards and that has been carefully vetted — especially those who work closely with the president or handle sensitive national security information,” Kelly said in the memo. “We should — and in the future, must — do better.”

The White House argues Kushner will continue to fulfill an important role at the White House, regardless of his access level to classified information.

This will be a PLUS for Trump and his polling numbers.

A president can counsel with his staff on some item of concern even using imaginary circumstances or scenarios to gauge various opinions on different options, in a variety of possible events without turning over the Daily Briefing.

He can pose different scenarios as a question and not a statement.

Kirchner was not elected. Americans will appreciate that Trump is complying with dignity and respect for nepotism concerns and the fact that Kirchner is a relative, and that his foreign policy experience is encapsulated in the fact that he is Jewish.

It can take 4 to 6 months to go "final".

I've been waiting over a year for my Secret to go final. The FBI is doing them themselves now instead of contracting it out. It's s l o w.

“They have a way of making sure that conservatives don’t get to work for the government.”

Ummm...I’m pretty conservative, as are many military officers. I never had a problem getting a TS clearance.

Poorly written, or else I’m a poor reader.

Did General Kelly downgrade Jared’s security clearance?

Or, did the FBI downgrade it?

Security clearances are granted on a need to know basis. General Kelly will grant such clearances only on that basis.

Kushner had a need to know. Apparently, Trump has demoted Jared.

Some in Clinton’s WH NEVER got a security clearance and yet remained in jobs where they would see classified material

As much as some have complained about and suspected Jared Kushner, I’d think a little distancing and demotion would be welcomed rather than being regarded as upsetting. Other than being family by way of marrying Ivanka I’ve never really felt that he belonged, I understand he may have played an important role during the election but beyond that? I recall a few snafus with Jared Kushner front and center too, though. If he’s been demoted I trust Trump and trust that it’s both necessary and for the best. Can’t have been easy, we all know how he dotes on Ivanka.

Where in that article is the objective proof anyone’s security clearances were in fact downgraded?

Nowhere. It’s speculation.

Please downgrade Ivanka’s clearance, too.

But Susan Rice still has hers...am I in bizzaro world ?

Rice still has clearance to classified material that pertains to her time in the Obama White House as National Security adviser, nothing else.

Oh? How would you know?

Wasn't Kushner once a Senior Advisor to the president?

Didn't Kushner work with the NSC?

"General Kelly downgrade Jared’s security clearance?"

Video says. not yet. It will be up to General Kelly in the next couple weeks. Jared isn't the only one in question here.

I’m not sure I’d want to use those two bullet-riddled losers to justify nepotism in government today.

Your military. But if you worked for Booz Allen or Deloitt instead, you get a lot of military secrets but the clearances are harder. Then go work for the Trump WH then the clearances are even harder to get. Of course they hand out temporary TS like candy.

The fact that he is 36 has nothing to do with a clearance. Its probably easier to get the younger you are. TS is a joke. There are literally millions of people with them. The reality is that we elect people to represent us. And those people need to have information about how the government is run. redactions and clearances have become Swamp tools to protect Swamp creatures more than top secrets.

When our submarine went on Special Operations, its location was Top Secret/SCI in a compartment none of you have ever heard of. Only the Sonarmen, Radiomen, and Officers were cleared TS/SCI, everyone else was cleared Secret. Everyone on the boat knew where we were and what we were doing. (That is why they didn’t make any extra noise;-)

For what Jered Kushner is doing in the Middle East he only needs a Secret clearance.

On the other hand, Linda Tripp and Monica Lewinski both had a TS/SCI, so it appears to me that someone in the bureaucracy is messing with President Trump. Ultimately, that will not turn out to have been a good choice.
