A busload of surviving students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School traveled to the Florida state capital Tuesday to lobby on behalf of gun control legislation. Despite their efforts, the Florida House has voted down a motion take up a ban on the AR-15, tabling the measure. The vote was 36-71.
Seventeen people were killed and over a dozen injured when a former student opened fire on the school last week. The shooter, Nikolas Cruz, used an AR-15.
Soon after the carnage, lawmakers renewed their calls for a ban on the rifle. It got support from even Republican governors like John Kasich, who wondered why anyone would need a firearm like it.
At about the same time, President Trump declared his support for legislation to ban bump stocks, a feature which gives a gun owner the ability to fire off rounds more quickly.
"We can do more to protect our children," he said at a Medal of Valor ceremony Tuesday afternoon. "We must do more to protect our children.”
Shortly after those remarks, he signed a memo authorizing Attorney General Jeff Sessions to enforce the ban.
A larger group of students is expected to stage a protest Wednesday in Tallahassee, but the demonstrations aren't limited to Florida. Over the weekend, protesters staged a "lie-in" at the White House to demand lawmakers take some action on gun control.
While the legislation to ban AR-15s is stalled in the Florida legislature, Republican lawmakers said other measures are still on the table.
Sen. Bill Galvano, a Republican and the incoming Florida senate president, said the state Senate was preparing a package that would include raising the age to purchase any firearm to 21, creating a waiting period for purchasing any type of firearm, banning bump stocks that can enable semi-automatic guns to spray bullets quickly and creating gun-violence restraining orders.
So these children were given time off school? Will they also be given time to promote the pro-life cause?
Didn’t think so.
ARTH!
Who paid for the bus?
Good!
Now lets ban unprotected schools full of idiot young Democrats.
No, I'm sorry Sergeant, even though your squad depends on you in combat, you must surrender your firearm...
Introduce a bill that prevents these kind of bills from being introduced after the event that introduces them. For six months.
Ban bump-stocks? You can bump fire using a rubber band or your belt loop is shooting from the hip. (Which we all know is very cool, and almost as accurate!) Then they ban AR-10s as well, or will people just switch to .308? Smart, these guys!
“Exactly. If some snot-nosed liberal kid comes to my face and yells at me about leftard points, I;ll tell this zitface to STFU.”
And if that doesn’t work than a left jab followed by a right cross will work.
Tell me #Karamela isn't running for Biden's VP. This is Slow Joe verbatim. Biden could have had his hand up the back of her blouse throwing his voice...
30-06 rifle is not a cartridge for only short range weapons. Depending on what you call "effective range" it will be on the order of 1200 yards. Maximum range of 3200 yards. I would not like to have someone shoot at me with an M1 from a mile away. The definition of lethal depends on lots of variables.
Michael Weiner is advocating for gun control as we speak.
Who paid to bus those kids in? (Don’t bother: I already know the answer).
Oh? She's talking about a shooting and not abortion?
They're in public indoctrination camps. They don't know any better.
“A friend of mine modified a Ruger 10/22 to full auto and went to prison for it about 40 years ago...”
Had a friend try to sell me one of those almost 30 years ago, but admitted it jammed a lot, and I wasn’t interested.
No.
A pro-life dem?! Who knew? /s

WRONG QUESTION. Some better ones would be: Why are schools such easy targets? Shouldn’t they have better security measures, including armed guards and teachers with training? More secure access? How does someone not enrolled in school just get to saunter in?
In the 50s all the guys came to school with guns in gun racks, but we didn’t have all these shootings. Why is that?
Why is it that these shooters often are troubled and on medication that is known to have side effects that cause suicidal/homicidal mania and hearing voices? Maybe we should look a little more into whether this is really effective treatment.
Why is it that these mass shootings never make it to court, where a full discussion and presentation of evidence would be available to the public? Nope-they are usually a dead shooter, or a plea deal, thereby cutting off real investigation.
Nope all we get is emotional “hate the guns” and no real discussion of real solutions. PROPOGANDA - Pravda USA 24/7.
As to why anyone would need a gun like that? Ask the police in Chicago, where gangs are using AK47 and armor piercing bullets.
Police and Citizens are already outgunned. Drug cartel members have been infiltrating for years, and they don’t do background checks to get their weapons. Spit.
Wakeup Kasich, take off the rose colored glasses and look at the real world.
...Its very sad to see the students being exploited by the media over this...
Not just the Democrat MSM. It’s the Democrat party, other liberals, and socialists. They’re all on board. They have had the laws written for decades.
It’s not about “saving lives.”
It’s just about control of Americans. Raw power.
