It’s just a matter of time before it happens again.

Could be tomorrow.

No school has been fortified, no armed guard has been hired.

I can only assume that people want this to happen.

I doubt anyone wants it to happen again. There are several tens of thousands of school campuses K-12 in the USA. We've had school shootings at probably, still less then 100 schools since they started around 30 years ago. The probability of one happening at any given school is tiny. But it is at the point where something should be done and training some faculty to have firearms at school seems reasonable, and additional, full-time security is probably needed at most schools, anyway. Then better ways to control who comes and goes during the day.

But there is no perfect way to secure a school because of the very nature of the setting and the large number of people who come and go. A sniper from a few hundreds yards away could shoot a few people. But there are reasonable steps that need to be taken.

Need to start treating these dum-basses in schools schools with airport rules. You cannot yell “Hi Jack!” when you see your friend Jack.

Yes indeed. The Generals are always ready for the last war.

The probability of one happening again is 100%.

If we do not want our treasure taken, we are going to have to guard it.

Or remove it from the school that refuses to guard it.

Taking no steps, or sitting around arguing about pointless gun control tells me that we want it to happen again, because we are currently, as of right, now doing absolutely nothing to stop it from happening again, which it most certainly will.

Sure sounds like a leftist mantra to me.... I mean, no free speech/due process/ right to arms etc.

Do you know how many men, women, boys and girls spout off at the mouth on a regular basis? Do you incarcerate/prohibit everyone who gets mad and states stupid things? The elements of a crime are multiple and must be met legally otherwise we all should likely be prevented from exercising our liberties.

Liberty comes with risk, and responsibility.

If parents are concerned about school safety- then do something- maybe give up the boat and second home and use the savings to homeschool or send your precious ones to a private secured school. Public school, just because we all (property owners anyway) foot the bill does not mean our kids should go there. Mine didn’t.

In the end, only you the parent/adult, are able to protect you own.

If we think the government (state local and or fed) are responsible, then we must be willing to give up more, much more of our liberties IOT to allow them to watch over us- with all the additional risk of out of control “government” that entails.

Government can only make you completely safe if they put you in a cage for your own safety.... Everything else is relative.

Regarding the no purchase lists- indeed- it exists. NICS through the FBI is supposed to ( GIGO, remember) alert the FBI to prohibited persons, but that list has legal criteria- a visit to a mental institution by itself may not be a prohibition. Involuntary commitment for eval and or a court adjudication are prohibiting acts, but having an emotional issue is not a DQ by itself. Certain convictions for misdemeanors (domestic violence) and all felony convictions are DQs. States must report to the Fed for the record to be complete- some states do better than others, but there are also errors that effect non-DQ’d people too.

Illegal weapons purchases? Any attempt by a prohibited person to possess arms or ammunition is a felony already- good thing the fed gov prosecutes everyone who tries ( not, only a tiny portion of such attempts at gunshops are ever prosecuted....). Private sales? Well, that is an issue- if I sell a firearm privately- I indeed ask the purchaser to complete a 4473 ( you can print them off the ATF website)- the same form used at a gunshop-if they refuse-no sale. I record everything- just like at a gunshop. If they balk, that’s fine. Otherwise i have paper to cover my six.... Good thing I seldom sell a firearm, at least to a non-ffl.

Finally, as I sit here writing this, I wonder if you are in a condition or position to protect yourself right now from a lethal attack? Are you armed? You home/office secured? Your car locked? re you situationally aware? If not, you are a seep.

me, I long ago chose to be a sheepdog. Am I armed to the teeth with offensive weaponry? Is my home/office auto a veritable fortress? Am I sweating every time a car drive by or a person enters? Nope, not at all, but I live with a lifelong set of experiences that run in the background and i am safe in mind and body regardless of the storms raging around me.

I am sure you mean well,

Regards.

because we are currently, as of right, now doing absolutely nothing to stop it from happening again, which it most certainly will.

I think you're overstating things. As I said before, there are several tens of thousands of K-12 campuses in the USA. I'm sure some of them have been and still are taking steps to prevent shootings. It's more a state and local matter unless one wants some grand, federal approach to the problem.

Amnd, of course, it will happen again somewhere at some point. One of the dumbest things all too many politicians say is: "To make sure it never happens again." There are few things in life we can make sure will never happen again.

If you want to know what takes to forfeit a “ liberty” then try boarding an aircraft and threatening to kill everyone onboard.

My suggestion of tightening the screws on punks who make death threats being permitted to exercise their “ rights” to buy an AR is a starting point.

The definition of “ hate speech” has gotten absurd. So I don't know what it will take to tighten up the definitions of “ terroristic threat’” vs smack talk. But when some punk who has access to my kids school makes a threat to shoot kids at the school, those kids deserve the same level of protection as a politician who gets death threats.

Here in DC they have armed guards at McDonald's. Have for years. Banks. Malls. City Hall. All armed guards. You don't hear much about schools in Israel being shot up- they profile and they protect with deadly force.

You think this punk would have picked this school if he knew he had to get past armed security? I don't

Better security. Proactive response to death threats. Removal of your “ gun rights” should be the least of your worries if you brag about shooting kids.

I’m not sure. I’d like to be sure. If some have taken measures, I’d like to see those measure highlighted and promoted on every channel, all the time, until it’s done.

I definitely do not want a federal solution. The federal government is utterly useless outside of being overtly harmful.

And yeah I hate the we have to make sure it never happens again BS too. You can’t. It’s not possible. But what you can do is make it very difficult for future perps to achieve high kill counts while escaping with their own lives.

This needs to be a state and local solution, if not a private solution IMO.

No idea what the airline statement means- sorry.

The only parts of your comment I understand was the one about armed guard at venues of all types in DC etc and the lack of school type shootings in Israel; the part about Cruz knowing he was not going to face an armed guard or staff member at the school..

On those I completely agree. Up-arm every one, make the punks have to fight their way in.... Been saying that all along. Sad fact is, governments won’t agree, smile and so do for the most part. They think anyone other than a cop is a risk- but when you tell them CCW licensees in TX are 8.5 times more law abiding than cops, they look at you with dead eyes and drool running down their faces.

As I sit here at home after a day with my grand kids and daughter, armed and aware of what was going on around my home. Daughter gave me the secret pro-word upon arrival telling me she was armed too. That made three adults trained and armed watching two children...

At least the grand kids school has a security program wherein they have armed staff and faculty with concealed weapons, and a basic but working exterior and interior security system and routinely execute active shooter drills, Two armed uniformed school protection staff at each facility at all times, positive ID entry and metal detectors the only entrance, etc. Private church affiliated school that costs the equivalent of a Cadillac SUV monthly- but my daughter knows the trade off is worth it and drives a Ford sedan. I love Missouri.

Yeah, indeed, ones rights can only be lawfully deprived after a due process situation. Otherwise a complaint by a PITA neighbor or ex-spouse, grouchy teen can and would take indecent liberties with our rights. Been swatted- he is now in prison. I was glad I had the SD on speed dial and a working relationship with the Sherriff- otherwise it could have ended badly- for more than just me.

You may not like it at times, but all of our rights are guaranteed by the same process and protections. Otherwise none of us have rights if the government can simply “red flag” us based on some non-adjudicated situation. Too often the folks that have first hand information don’t want to “ruin” a kids life by being harsh... this was the situation in this case I believe. Like I said, liberty comes with responsibility. Defend yourself and yours. Send the kiddos off to the sheep pens if you want, I suggest there are options until the schools up-arm and prepare as you allude to. If it is too much a burden on lifestyle choices, then you’d better be more of a praying and hoping man than I- I sold my cloak and bought a sword long ago.

My wife and I began homeschooling our children in the early 90s, she gave up her RN job and I worked a second job even as a commissioned officer to make ends meet, we sacrificed luxuries for a long time while our children were raised and educated in a wholesome environment. They all are successful and productive men and women doing the same for theirs.

Regards
