The Black Panther first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2016 in Captain America: Civil War.
Now he's got his own film, which goes way beyond the usual expectations of fantasy, fight scenes and romance.
Having a plot based around a black superhero with a predominantly black cast is a first for Marvel, but the film builds on this concept in a massive way.
Directed by Creed's Ryan Coogler, it is set in the mythical country of Wakanda: a hidden African kingdom with incredible technological power, due to its reserves of the world's most useful precious metal.
Chadwick Boseman, who plays its king T'Challa and (more importantly) the Black Panther, tells the BBC that getting Wakanda right was the most important thing.
"This is fantasy and we have to create a culture," he says. "It's not necessarily because it's the first time we're seeing a black superhero; I think it's because we have to define what Wakanda is.
"It can't be some generalised version of what the country is or the accent.
"It can't be generalised in why we wear certain clothing or why we have the number of tribes we have - what are those tribes?
"We have a river tribe and a border tribe for example."
This is echoed by his co-star Lupita Nyong'o, who plays Nakia in the film - his love interest and moral compass rolled into one.
The Oscar-winning actress tells the BBC: "We're in Africa and we meet an entirely new nation that the world has never been to, and it delivers on feeling like another part of the world.
"This is a nation that is highly developed, and they are so because they didn't get interrupted by or assaulted by colonialism."

Selma:
Budget—$20 million
Box office—$66.8 million
Doesn’t look like a bomb to me.
But you can’t judge the quality of a film by box office numbers alone.
Why is this a topic these days like it’s something new? I mean way back we had Snipes playing in a lot of such roles as Blade. No one was typing up such virtue signaling stuff back then.
And just WHERE are you getting that RSA info from?
Are you from there originally?
Do you have white relatives living there?
So dear old "SAINT" Nelson "granted concessions" to whites, did he? LOL
So in other words, another CGI-laden snooze-fest, but with added anti-white ideology.
Can’t wait to not see this load.
>> because they didn’t get interrupted by or assaulted by colonialism.
Or a Coke bottle.
Well if u can’t educate them u might as well lie to them to make them feel good, you know, like what the Marxist teacher unions do in public education.
LOL...
One of the first causalities of Political Correctness was the sense of humor.
REALLY?
And you got your "facts" from WHERE?
Oh yes, the earliest Boers settled in places where there was NOBODY living, but they also fought and/or bought lands from the Zulus, along the way!
The black population of RSA has grown due to quite a few different reasons 1) the Zulus fought with other tribes ( mainly outside of where they were living and brought in SLAVES, from the conquered tribes 2) many blacks from other African nations have been trying to sneak into that nation ( ILLEGAL ALIENS ! ) for many generations; yes even during Apartheid ( which is why the RSA military was once stationed on the borders! ) 3) bursts of reproducing .
After only a year or so, the government owned ( yes, the newspapers in RSA, as well as the radio and T.V. stations ARE government owned! )and black run newspapers had screaming, huge headlines that stated: " BRING BACK APARTHEID" !
It's an over CGIed, anti-white, SJW, BLM, PC movie.
“Black Panther” is a comic book character that was created and made famous by two white guys.
It would be interesting to know what percentage of the film cost was financed by risk taking Black investors.
That’s true; Britain was generally a better colonizer than France, Holland, Portugal, or Belgium. This was probably because they set up the colonized people within the administration, rather than just using Europeans to administer them; when they left, the newly-free people had a better idea as to how to operate.
Why are so many whites still there? Some left, but they are still a much larger percentage of the population there than in Zimbabwe, for example.
In direct response to your question: The census.
The battles against the Zulus took place after the original settlements; my point was that the Dutch set up on what was unsettled land. The Dutch used that argument for much of what was done in the ensuing centuries.
Ask freeper **PIF** all about the gleaming African coastal cities of yore, packed with running household water and sewage systems, and how those cities were sooo far ahead in tech and organization than coastal European cities of the time..!
The Portugese first on-scene were BEGGING to just stay forever, it was so cushy..!
You might say Africa of the time made them all feel like KANGZ..!
He can even point out BOOKS that told him so!
Hey, no one said they were “gleaming” !!! I merely said they existed. And yes in 15th century Portugal and Europe bathing, running water and indoor plumbing were unknown. Compared to what life was like in Portugal at the time, life was better in those cities. I said those coastal sub-Saharian cities, not the whole of Africa. Civilization in Europe was struggling to rise; it was a very unhappy period - some were even anticipating the End of the World in a year or two. The African costal area civilizations were on the way down from their heights a thousand year before when the Phoneticians and Mauritania were; Islam was pulling apart every fabric, but some still remained. It was one of those times in history. A clash. The Portuguese aided the slavers by introducing firearms and that was the last straw for any possible recovery.
Evidently, some must think that the 15th century Europe was magically replete with cell phones, saunas, TVs and the like, in short, not much different than today to imagine they were “cushy”. And they were Portuguese navigators and explorers, not “first on-scene”. Gezz!
I gave citations which document what I said, but were never read by the interested party. Everyone is always asking for sources - and here’s the fallacy on display, give them and the questioner ignores them, going right on with whatever rant. Apparently, some in their blind hate of black Africans and their history even denigrate books which document that history. Naked hatred and bigotry on display - I thought those things only happened on liberal sites.
And by the way, I do believe it is Freeper etiquette to ping the person you are mentioning by name, especially when slamming with a thinly disguised ad hominum.
Africans NEVER invented the wheel, or arch, or much of anything else prior to the evil White man’s arrival

As long as you exclude the “Westerners” of North Africa, the entirety of Egyptian history, as well as Carthage.
The U.S. of A. has HAD EIGHT YEARS OF “BLACK PANTHER”, even before the movie was thought about.
I’m not going to see it, NOR, spend the five bucks for the movie from the Walmart movie bucket.
People here seem to positively loath history
Some are very learned in it (and could school me); others just accept media interpretations.
