Heather Holland, a second-grade teacher at Ikard Elementary School with the Weatherford Independent School District died over the weekend, the Weatherford Democrat reports. Holland got sick about a week ago and took medication, but delayed picking up the prescription due to the $116 copay, according to the newspaper.
By Friday night, Holland's condition worsened and she was taken to the hospital. Her husband Frank Holland told the Weatherford Democrat that she died Sunday morning.
"She loved helping people, helping the kids, and the kids loved her," Holland's husband told the Weatherford Democrat.
Charlotte LaGrone, a spokeswoman for Weatherford ISD, told news station CBS DFW that counselors are available at the school for the rest of the week to help students and school staff cope with the sudden loss. She added that custodians started deep cleaning the district's schools in December to keep students from getting sick, and that the specific campus where Holland was employed had received an additional cleaning on Friday, Feb. 2.
This year's flu season has been particularly deadly, with flu-related deaths being reported across the nation. Last month, five flu-related deaths were reported in the greater Houston area. The CDC reports the flu is widespread across America this year and possibly won't peak until March.

The flu shot may only be 30 percent effective at preventing flu this year, but it also does decrease severity which may be the difference between life and death.
A young pastor and his wife from Dallas lost a 3-year-old son this past Thursday from the flu. The mom had taken him to the doctor with the sniffles and no other symptoms. The doctor said he was fine and sent him home, where he died. I have heard SO MANY reports of little ones having the flu, yet no flu-like symptoms. Also know a few people who only had a RASH, and no other symptoms, yet tested positive for flu.
I wonder if all theses flu deaths of young people is due to a cytokine storm. I told my daughter to research that after granddaughter was diagnosed last week.

This really depends on the underlying health of the person, my daughter is an asthmatic and has used Tamiflu before and it greatly decreases the length and severity of the flu.

The Pharmacist, who I knew, signed my d@mn DOG up for their ‘Rewards Card’ and I got the meds my DOG needed for $15.00, versus the hundred or so my Vet would’ve charged!

Sepsis is not the same as cytokine storm... sepsis is bacterial infection that is in the bloodstream and spreads to all your organs lowering your blood pressure and putting you in shock. cytokine storm is an over reaction of the immune system

That tamiflu stuff is expensive, I paid $106 for mine last week. On the other hand, I doubt Tamiflu would be the difference between life and death.
Also, my doctor told me that last week almost nobody HAD any Tamiflu, and a lot of people were waiting almost a week to get their medicine.

I am getting to old to mess with the flu, and the shot IS free.
While I am there I also get the pneumonia shot, that one costs me 12 bucks, but I have been a smoker since I was 11 years old and figure I can use all the help I can get.
thank you for the link. I’m not surprised and you don’t sound like a DU kook. lol. Daughter got online and did some research on Tamiflu and decided they were lucky it wasn’t available due to some of the side effects. The doctor at the urgent care center told her it only shortened the effects of the flu by about 19 hours and to concentrate more on liquids and fever reducing OTC meds. She got the prescription for cough filled and all is well. We are just waiting for little brother Cameron to come down with it now. BTW, he had a flu shot too.
