CINCINNATI -- In national news, there hasn't been much lately for those concerned about the environment to cheer about. The Trump administration appears determined to roll back regulations on coal-fired power plants, offshore oil drilling and coal mining.
Locally, however, the city of Cincinnati and Hamilton County government are treating global warming as a real thing -- a thing they can do something about.
With input from Hamilton County government, Cincinnati is updating the Green Cincinnati Plan, a set of recommendations for addressing global climate change and for powering the city with 100 percent renewable energy.
The city is paying local nonprofit Green Umbrella, a regional sustainability alliance, $25,000 from the mayor's budget to help update the plan, Green Umbrella executive director Kristin Weiss said. That money will pay for the printing of the new plan as well as for facilitators to lead public hearings about the update, she said.
According to the Office, the revised plan will likely see more than 70 recommendations, grouped into eight topic areas. Among the areas with the biggest impact would be:
Renewable energy from sources such as solar power, prices for which have dropped by 75 percent over the past 10 years;
Electric vehicles, which can be powered by cleaner sources of energy;
Trees, which soak up carbon emissions, improve air quality and reduce stormwater runoff;
Food, because what we eat and where it comes from can have significant environmental impacts;
Energy efficiency, through use of LED lights, high-efficiency heat pumps and better home insulation.

Wait! WKRP in Cincinnati? Is Les Nesmond still there?
As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!
(sorry, I’m done now.) :-)
Its scary to think how much taxpayer money is wasted on this fraud.
OH, THE HUMANITY!!
Oh, great! They can’t get carbon credits pushed through, so they’re going to spend oodles of our money on some risky scheme and pass the costs along to us.
I did not know they had coal mines in Cincinnati and oil rigs off their coast?
“Food, because what we eat and where it comes from can have significant environmental impacts”
“Trust me”
Looks like some of the smaller deep staters are floating to the surface. Time to flush again, and wash away the stain of the hand of hussein.
“powering the city with 100 percent renewable energy.”
Enjoy freezing in the dark.
There simply isn’t enough solar and wind in that part of the country in winter to heat and power the population.
It’s all OK though since the money is coming from “the mayor’s budget”. It’s not like the taxpayers are funding it or anything like that. /s
As dad used to say, money down a rat hole.
What a great idea!
Nothing stifles competitiveness and local economies like handicapping your own city and county
by driving up costs with goofy politically correct regulations.
.......well, politically active and connected Liberals in Liberal enclaves like Cincinatti and Austin HAVE TO HAVE extra curricular income in order to fund their little pet projects AND, more importantly, in order to fund their Cannabis purchases so they lobby their Liberal City Council buddies that are routinely present in some smoke filled 300 sf high rise apartment for a little taxpayer money to fund another study of Global Warming, or possum poop or whatever!
That’s all that’s going on here folks. Move on down the road. No story here.
But they'll have to wait until all the snow melts first.................
LEFT hand........................it’s the one muzzies use to...................
Where democrats rule darkness, decay and despair will follow.
Let me guess, are we going to have Jennifer versus Bailey debates on this thread?
