Remember when I too heard this the first time. (This was the first album I ever I bought! and 40 years later I still know all the words. Lol.)

Also remember when I first heard Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Best group ever! Amazing vocals.

When I first heard this song back in 1971, all I could think of was that it had something to do with Buddy Holly.

I remember a spoof song back then about Dion and The Belmonts..
In my memory it goes something like this...

Dion and the Belmonts are driving us to tears
Let’s send them up the river for about a thousand years
While the kids are watching Dion singing about the stars
The Belmonts are out in the parking lot stealing hubcaps off of cars

Each time I steal a hubcap it almost breaks my heart
Why do I steal hubcaps, why did I have to start?
Each night I ask the stars without fail
Why must I be a teenager in jail?

I saw that when I looked it up too, I could have sworn I heard it two years earlier, based on an event I remembered.. however, you are right. Hmmm, I hope rest of my memories are better recorded, lol.

That stuff is pricy. I’m a fan of Rittenhouse Rye and I won’t even turn my nose up at Old Overholt.

I heard the girl who sang the blues was Janis Joplin.

My memory is starting to go too.

When I watch Jeopardy, I very often know the answer (or question) but would never come up with it in time if I were on the show.

The day that changed the history of popular music on not one but two continents.

The untimely deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J. P. "Big Bopper" Richardson resulted in a massive "creative hole" in popular music, especially with rock n' roll. That very change made it possible for the rise of the black-oriented Motown style of popular music from 1960 on and eventually the British Invasion that started in the fall of 1963 with the rise of the Beatles.

Great thread. I started googling names and read up on Waylon Jennings. Then I googled his wife Jesse Coulter.

DO NOT GOOGLE IMAGES FOR JESSE COULTER.

I am usually pretty good with remembering, however, I related that song to a certain event, which was years earlier. Now, I am trying to recall which song was relevant.... Thanks for letting me know date.

The best 5.5 minutes you will have today. First time I heard it, I had to pull off to the side of the road. My 11 year old son and I laughed so hard. Good memores.

Was born in 67. My formative pop songs growing up were ‘American Pie’, ‘ Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘Beth’, and Jim Croce.

I discovered Buddy Holly when I was very young. Circa 1970 at about 10 years old. I now have about 500 albums on vinyl and about a thousand CDs of all kinds of artists. I love Buddy Holly the most out of all of the music I possess.

Yes, and a “Fallout Shelter” is a drug rehab center.

And some cheerleader dunked him at the sock hop and danced with some other dude.
