David Horowitz: Why Conservatives Need to Amend the Constitution Now
Convention of States ^ | February 1st 2018 | David Horowitz

Posted on 02/03/2018 1:30:12 PM PST by Jacquerie

What do the John Birch Society, Eagle Forum, Common Cause and Planned Parenthood have in common? They all oppose the states’ use of Article V of our Constitution to impose and enforce constitutional limits on Washington.

While it is no surprise that Marxist-leaning groups would fight, tooth and nail, to resist any plan for breaking the federal government’s virtual monopoly on policy-making, all conservatives agree that this monopoly is a perversion of our federal system. But, sadly, the Left’s propaganda and junk history have brainwashed some conservatives into opposing the states’ use of constitutional power to check federal overreach.

Having spent much of my adult life documenting various tactics used by the radical Left, I can’t say that I was totally surprised when I recently learned that the Left was, in fact, the original source of the fear and misinformation concerning Article V today, or that they are now escalating and publicizing their opposition to conservatives’ use of the process to restrain federal power.

In their efforts to frighten citizens and state legislators away from the one process powerful enough to “drain the swamp,” the conservative naysayers refer to the process as a “constitutional convention,” or “con-con,” slander the Founding Fathers by maintaining that the Constitutional Convention exceeded its authority, and prophesy that if 34 state legislatures should ever be so reckless as to hold a meeting to discuss proposing amendments, then Christmas will be outlawed, the Second Amendment deleted, and the nation’s Capital moved to Los Angeles.

The sad thing is that the conservative opposition groups don’t even seem to realize that in stoking fears about an Article V convention, they are reading right out of the Left’s playbook.

OK, the president has a right to fire anyone who was giving him that first security briefing where the dossier was shown to him. Remember the security briefing where Clapper and others showed the dossier to Trump and they said it was false. Then they leaked that meeting to the press. At that meeting they admitted it was false. Everyone in that briefing should be fired by Trump now for giving a false security briefing to a President elect.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

The Constitution isn't 'broke' -- it is fine. The problem is that it isn't enforced -- and that enforcement problem is going to be true for any new changes.

Trump should declare martial law , for about a year . Until all the coup plotters , subversives , and traitors can be rooted out and brought to justice . Ban the Democrat Party . 100%

if you think that you can control an Article V convention, you are sadly mistaken. liberal states will send liberals who will smother conservatives, and lead the way. first to go would be the second amendment, followed by the entire Bill of Rights.

naïve people think that things will go their way, but the libs will hijack the convention and use it to further their agenda and make it unstoppable.

conservatives cannot even control their own party, let alone such a free for all

Hey, I’m willing to give Congress one more chance to repeal the 16th and 17th amendments before Artice V is invoked.

“Fat chance. “

Who said that...?

Yes, the election of Donald Trump muted the fears of many. Unfortunately, his reforms will not outlive him unless we amend the law of the land.

No shit. We can’t even counter an open, earnest and proud coup d’etat right now, but we’re gonna herd everybody through a CC?

Horowitz says, “In their efforts to frighten citizens... the conservative naysayers... slander the Founding Fathers... prophesy that if 34 state legislatures should ever be so reckless...”

He says that Eagle Forum thinks that anyone in favor of the convention is working for the bogeyman, and then he goes on to accuse them of working out the will of the ultimate bogeyman, George Soros. Why a convention of states will “drain the swamp.” How dare you be opposed to that!

There is substantive argument in Mr. Horowitz essay, please go to the link and read the entire piece ignoring his insults, propaganda techniques and logical fallacies.

Love David Horowitz. But he is wrong here.

Why create a new Constitution through amendments that the left will just as easily abuse as the old one?

They do it through unassailable (purportedly) judges which they appoint.

The answer is a powerful re-assertion of states constitutional rights which already exist. And if they can’t be effectively asserted, a divorce is also constitutionally proper.

Trump should declassify that meeting and then make all the notes and/video public - the media and the RAT party would go absolutely insane.

Nothing could be more useless than a constitutional convention. Your government routinely ignores the limits already in place, and will ignore any new limits placed.

What are you going to do about it?

I’m not against enacting Article 5 because I’ve been brainwashed by the progressives regardless of this idiot authors point.

I’m against it because any attempt to alter the constitution at this point in time will be poisoned to shift it to a socialist one as happened with Venezuela which has undergone not 2 but 3 rewrites of their constitution in the last 20 years.

We couldn’t revoke Obamacare with both houses of Congress and the presidency - what makes you think we’ll do any better rewriting the constitution?!
