A Russian warplane was shot down Saturday in Syria, according to Russian state-run news agencies.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed one of its Su-25 warplanes was downed in Idlib province in northwest Syria, state media outlet RIA Novosti reported.
Militants shot down the plane in an area controlled by al-Nusra Front fighters, according to the RIA Novosti report. Russia and Turkey, which is responsible for a de-escalation zone in Idlib, were taking measures to return the pilot's body, the defense ministry said.
The ministry said more than 30 militants in the area were killed in a retaliatory strike, according to RIA Novosti, citing "radio intercepts."
The defense ministry said the pilot was able to eject from the aircraft before it crashed, according to state-run news agency TASS, but died while fighting al-Nusra fighters.

Hours ago, #Russia Air Force Su-25SM (06 RED / RF-95486) was shot-down by AA gun of moderate Jaysh al-Nasr Jihadists/ terrorists near #Idlib while was providing CAS. 06 RED was one of six Su-25s of #RuAF's 368 ShAP recently deployed from Sevastopol, #Crimea to #Hmeimim AB, #Syria
down thread:
Confirmed now, the #RuAF's Su-25SM with RF-96486 s/n piloted by Filippov Roman Nikolaevich is shot-down by MANPADS of Jaysh al-Nasr Moderate Jihadist group over #Idlib, #Syria. Most likely one of FN-6 MANPADS recently delivered by #Turkey is used to shoot down the 06 RED today.

oy vey. So, seems Turkey is not heeding anyone. Also reported on YouTube that pilot was beheaded.
Since Trump/USA cut off McCain's FSA, they have relied on Turkey to fund, supply and support them. Maybe in return, Russia can lend a little support to the Kurdish YPG...
All that Russia would have to do is deny Turkey the green light for air access over Efrin Syria.
If there is a supply of the 9M113 Konkurs missiles, that YPG just used to take out what was a very likely a Leopard 2A4TR tank today, this might become a Turkey shoot. smile.

Likely just some leftovers from McCrazys billions or possibly CIA is still supporting the moderate jihadists maybe even the Pentagon. Mattis is drunk most of the time so it would be easy to have some rogue operation
Doubt it.
Chinese FN-6 / FN-16 MANPADS

McCain’s FSA?
Yhey need to send in 4 SQDns of SU25 WarHogs to clean the Terrs out.
sorry,.. the SU26 is called FrogFoot. It’s a flying tank.
Yes, McCain has been the biggest cheerleader for the FSA. Since Trump cut them off due to ties with ISIS and Al Queda, McCain has repeatedly called on him to restore funding and support. McCain even slipped into Syria to meet with FSA leadership back in 2013.
Several 9M113s mounting 2006-production 9N131M2-1 tandem-warhead ‘Abrams killer’ warheads have been documented as being in Syria as far back as 2013. This is the latest spec that the Russians field, not the normal export version (9N131M is the usual export version).
Worth noting is that the Leopard 2 likely incorporates a form of Chobham armor as was fitted to our early M1 Abrams tanks and remains fitted to the British Challengers. The fact that the 9M113 was easily able to penetrate the Leopard 2’s turret armor and savage the interior despite the Abrams-like protective design features should be something we sit up and pay attention to.
NATO’s long time disinterest in active tank protection systems has bit Turkey, I suspect.
Live feeds indicate some massive Russian butt kicking is already going on
alluakbar alluakbar alluakbar
There is no SU-26 airplane, the SU-25 Frogfoot is the Russian close air support bird. It vaguely resembles the YA-9A from the A-X competition that gave us the A-10, but it seems to be a function-follows-form thing as the Frogfoot seems to be built around a different philosophy and is not as well armored as either of the A-X competitors.
The SU-26 is a WW2 Soviet self-propelled gun. :P
You know Mattis personally? That’s very impressive
Yes, Vlad is decisive.
I have no illusions of what Russia is, but they have no trouble pulling the trigger when such things happen.
I found a very interesting article this afternoon by Maxim A Suchkov in Al-Monitor. Will be posting an excerpt from it here on FR in a moment.
“Russia’s role in Afrin depends on Turkey’s true intentions”
There are things in the article that I dispute, but overall it is pretty well thought out. It shows much of Russia’s logic. Of course, it is focused upon what is in Russia’s interest.
You can make up your own mind what you think of it.
I’ll send you the link when I get it posted.
Thanks for that explanation. I have no background knowledge of tank design.
All weapons have some exposed weaknesses.
Those who use them are aware.
look at him closely - definitely a uncontroled boozer
Mattis is a man.
Putin is a child.
