"Seen accurately. American collapse is a catastrophe of human possibility without modern parallel . And because the mess that America has made of itself, then, is so especially unique, so singular, so perversely special the treatment will have to be novel, too.
The uniqueness of these social pathologies tell us that American collapse is not like a reversion to any mean, or the downswing of a trend. It is something outside the norm. Something beyond the data. Past the statistics. It is like the meteor that hit the dinosaurs: an outlier beyond outliers, an event at the extreme of the extremes. That is why our narratives, frames, and theories cannot really capture it much less explain it. We need a whole new language and a new way of seeing to even begin to make sense of it."
I respectfully disagree with you and the author. We live in a generally safe and prosperous country with a large amount of freedom. Yes, it has its flaws (baby killers, gender confusion, gay marriage, excessive government spending and taxing... and on and on...). Real problems (not the ones the author names though) but in terms of the opportunities and the freedoms and the possibilities all within relative safety for most, it is a huge winner. That is why half the world is trying to move here. (That and to blow us up)
I have to agree that being the first ‘civilization’ to grant a legal right to a gender to kill, without any other authorization whatsoever, their own offspring, accelerated the speed downhill considerably.
That’s got to be a singular root cause.
More chilling still is some of the responses to the article. It underlines what this man is positing.
You face it, and immediately you want to avert yourself.
It feels vast.
We have morphed culturally into something bad for the world. We started doing it when we went off gold...
Well the social rot we do have goes much deeper than that. It is essentially a religious void. The rot is deeper in places that are more secular (the UK for one). There are a lot of places in the US now that are extremely secular and extremely hostile to traditional Christian values. I am thinking Seattle because I have spent time there, but that rot is spreading. And we have religious leaders of all denominations (most) who do not stand up and teach biblical values. So yeah, I see that happening.
OMG, The Sky is Falling!
Actually a 2 minute read, if one has more than a 6th grade comprehension level.
2 minutes I’ll never get back.
Same BS that goes back to the beginning of written civilization, and was wrong then, too.
I see the worst aspects of American culture being exported worldwide, you can’t escape it. Everyone around the world has heard of the Kardashians. This is who represents the US now.
I live in Seattle, and in living here, the acceleration is palpable.
I was in the process of doing my final interview to join my church and the pastor, who’s Canadian, just uttered in one of the pauses,
“You’ve lived in other places. You get the feeling like there is a palpable and active evil in this area of the country?”
I couldn’t believe he said it. It helped me to think I wasn’t going crazy.
Is that what many cats do from time to time?
He's for capitalism. His problem with capitalism as it is in the USA right now is that it is divorced from anything culturally normative.
Capitalism is culturally neutral. Restricting or redirecting capitalism to solve the problem in our culture would have no effect. There might be some cultural revival as everyone became destitute. But at the same time the socialists in power will suppress religion and encourage cultural relativism as a means of keeping power.
Suffice to say homeless is not due to capitalism, but lack thereof. Yet another example of an incorrect diagnosis leading to incorrect solutions.

I read it. Was not impressed. Did you write it? Yes, we are seeing a breakdown of society, and it manifests itself in many ways. I did not think the author (you?) wrote about it in a particularly arresting or specific way. He compared the USA to other countries, but not to the old USA before it went down the tubes.
——Life expectancy is dropping due to socialism.-—
No life expectancy is dropping because folks eat too much. The various obesity related maladies take people out
Eating too much is a social disorder but not socialism
ping for later
Sorry but that is incorrect. Even under the worst case scenarios “unfunded” mandates are nowhere near 400 Trillion. And “unfunded” is a misnomer as well, when speaking of things like SS etc.
The biggest treat to this nation is not “unfunded” mandates, it is a failed educational system. That is without question the biggest long term threat to the US. An ignorant electorate
Yup, we’re screwed. I’m going fishing.
I didn’t write it. I don’t do that. I don’t have a blog.
I was scanning Zero Hedge and it was posted. Stopped me in my tracks.
I’ll admit to some confirmation bias. I’m walking around observing exactly what he’s describing and feeling like we are on the verge of a major, major tipping point.
All he set out to do is toss it out there, and he qualified it in the end by saying we may need a whole new way of describing this. He also suggested we can recover. Trump notwithstanding, I’m not so sure. This Pope running around now is an example of what Haque was talking about.
Many of those nations muse about their faded glory. I'll remember that we landed men on the moon.
Please wake up, People! Our Nation is this world's last hope. We just can't let it go down the PC-correct liberal hell hole.
Freedom without constraint is called license. Today’s leftists wish to live a totally licentious lifestyle and desire to call it freedom. Freedom comes with a sense of moral justice, conscious, and self-restraint with severe penalties to those that abuse their freedom ( liberty). Do not confuse licentious lifestyles (libertine) with liberty.
I read it all. Just another socialist making attacking capitalism. He focuses on fridge elements and fails in his understanding of the big picture. Most Americans lead long happy lives.
>>If you still have that dread now, youre not paying attention.<<
I sadly beg to disagree. It is my considered opinion that the heyday of the west is long gone, and every western country is now on the slippery slope of self-destruction. And President Trump, God bless his soul, has arrived too late to do more than temporarily delay the inevitable here in the U.S.
