Ex-Justice Dept. lawyer offered to sell secret U.S. whistleblower lawsuits to targets of complaints
Washington Post ^ | 1/25/2017 | Spencer S. Hsu

Posted on 01/26/2018 7:34:00 AM PST by Steven W.

Jeffrey Wertkin had a plot to bring in business and impress his new partners after joining one of Washington’s most influential law firms.

As a former high-stakes corporate-fraud prosecutor with the Department of Justice, he had secretly stockpiled sealed lawsuits brought by whistleblowers. Now, he would sell copies of the suits to the very targets of the pending government investigations — and his services to defend them.

...

Wertkin has admitted hawking sealed files he spirited out of the Justice Department’s civil-fraud division where he worked for six years until 2016. He walked out, court records state, with files for cases to which he had not been assigned, raising questions about how the department polices its attorneys and the possible damage to investigations aimed at recovering millions of dollars for taxpayers.

Maybe after he gets sentenced, he can run for Congress or Senate as a DEMOCRAT.

I think this shows that much of the corruption in our government is not solely due to one supreme bad guy. It is due to thousands of corrupt people working under the bad guy.

Every case tried, every settlement made by the Obama DoJ is tainted. Where these people were not wholly political they were wholly criminal.

“Wertkin has admitted hawking sealed files he spirited out of the Justice Department’s civil-fraud division...”

1. The language ‘spirited out’ seems a pathetic discount to what this really was, stealing.

2. If you’re going to steal from somewhere, it would seem the JUSTIC DEPT. CIVIL FRAUD DIVISION would not be wise choice. Just saying...

On 37 months for this dirt bag. He was a member of the bar, he put peoples livelyhoods and perhaps their well being in danger and he skates with a plea deal? BS.

The sad thing is that for decades Justice and other agencies have sometimes threatened lawsuits in order to shake down corporations, large and small, for “donations” and all in broad daylight.

Actually, it looks like the DOJ is the perfect place to get away with anything up to and including murder.

This guy was one more way to stop whistleblowers. The Obama regime did anything they wanted, to stop whistleblowers. Makes me wonder if the system purposely “looked away” because they WANTED the whistleblowers to fear lawsuits if they ever made it past the retaliation from the Obama regime itself.

The government is like organized crime but without their code of honor.

Interesting. I don’t see the name of the law firm that hired him anywhere in the story or the press release. Did I just miss it?
