Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Thursday rejected the idea of giving young undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship, one day after President Trump said he was open to the idea.
I do not believe we should be granting a path to citizenship to anybody here illegally, Cruz told reporters, according to Bloomberg. Doing so is inconsistent with the promises we made to the man and women who elected us.
For some reason that to me is utterly inexplicable, we see Republicans falling all over themselves to gallop to the left of [former President] Obama in a way that is contrary to the promises made to the voters who elected us, he added.
Trump on Wednesday said he was open to a path to citizenship for DACA recipients in exchange for funding for a border wall and other security measures.

If all border security and internal vetting procedures are in place than I have no problem having a pathway to citizenship over a period of years, perhaps in stages depending on when they entered the USA. Starting somewhere between 10-15 years from now and over a period of 20-30 years.
BUILD THE WALL, STRICT E VERIFY, harsh ENFORCED penalties for employing an illegal. An illegal cannot rent an apt, buy a home, open a bank account, get a library card, receive any kind of tax payer funded benefit beyond emergency care with quick deportation to their native country’s medical facilities.
“They arent ‘dreamers’”
They’re snakes — as in the poem PDJT read many times.
Cruz is full of crap.
Hey Ted!!!
Was there a FISA warrant to permit spying on you?
Of course there was
Cruz is an awful opportunist. He is not eligible to run either.
Go away Lyin’ Ted.
Isn’t Cruz the cutest thangggg???
Can anybody here see he’s runnin’..... again, trying to rebuild his boots with Texas RINO’s, in Austin, being seen giving the president a hard time??
Trump has crushed Cruz’ own amnesty dreams, of yester-year, HIS “path to citizenship” babblings for illegals, “coming out of the shadows”, and also shipping in foreign workers by tripling their numbers, (dumb putz) from those of the Gang of Eight, ie., Graham, MCCAIN, Rubio, etc..
Crooze lied to Texas to get his silver mouth into the US Senate, somberly speaking of how kind Heidi-hidey was to sacrifice the ENTIRE family fortune to contribute, with Goldman backers making up the difference (which was not discovered until after he was elected). (Hat tip to Heidy-hidey donor collections.)
No, Cruz needs to avoid the cliff’s edge. Texans have his number and the resulting outrage is quite branded into the TEXAS memory, of what a snake he is, what has come out of that self righteous silver lined mouth of his, of his ruthless campaign operation in the South, and the screw he applied to Trump won delegates replacing them with Cruz delegates.
We learned a lot about oh, so, conservative Crooooze. So did all of America, particularly those in the US SENATE. It has had to cost him a million or more to redeem himself and the promise to sit at the back of the bus from now on.
Didn’t you all just love the $250,000.00 Cruz gave to the NSRC PAC (during his apology service to Mitch McConnell) while serving as the Vice Chair on that Committee, who then crushed the conservative in MISSISSIPPI, (a Trump supporter) so they could RESURRECT and re-elect the 84 year old RINO mule, Thad Cochran, who was getting beaten like a rented mule?
I think we can come up with an amnesty plan that Republicans will agree to and will appeal to the American electorate. They can be forgiven for being brought here as children. That does not mean that they necessarily get to stay, just that what their parents did will not cause them to be put in jail and then deported, at least not if they follow certain requirements.
Rather, they can go to Mexico or whereever and apply from there for admission as a regular immigrant. Their having been an illegal will not be held against them, as it is in a normal application. In fact, we can put forth certain criteria that will put them in the front of the line:
1. They were brought here before age 15;
2. They went to school in the US and graduated from high school at least. We don’t want illiterates.
3. They have never committed a felony or a misdemeanor involving certain types of crimes (we can come up with a list of misdemeanor crimes that are disqualifying, such as sexual assault, violent assault, anything involving robbery or theft that got pleaded down, etc.)
4. They speak and write English with high school level proficiency.
5. They have not violated immigration law as adults.
6. They applied for DACA, or apply for a new program to identify themselves and so we can know how many are out there, who they are and where they are.
7. They have never voted in a US election, or a Mexican one.
8. They pledge loyalty to the US and to the US Constitution, and renounce loyalty to any other country. No dual citizenship.
There may be other good conditions, but that’s a start.
If they have American children, have a good job, have not recently been on welfare, i.e. are not a burden to society, they get bonus points.
If they meet all the criteria, they then get put to the front of the line of all incoming immigrants. Whatever the annual number is that we allow legally, these people count against that. If there are more than can be brought here in one year, then we only bring what are allowed under existing law, the ones at the top of the list first, and working our way down.
Assume the number is 3 million, which is more than the number of DACA registrants. Maybe they come in over 2-5 years and it does not increase the total number of immigrants. It does skew heavily in favor of Mexicans, but we can correct that once all the DACA kids are in by counting them against Mexico’s numbers after DACA immigration is over. We can then bring in Trump’s Norwegians and Asians, and counterbalance the new Democrat voters. To prevent a disruption to our electoral system, we can make the pathway to citizenship take longer for DACA people, 10-12 years or something like that, while the time for regular immigrants who did it the right way remains 5 years or whatever it is now.
Just my random thoughts, but I think it would work. In a perfect world, we would send them and all illegals home, but this is a workable solution in exchange for the wall, e-verify and increased border enforcement. Once we stop the invasion, we can work on assimilation and restoration of a semblance of America before they tried to replace us.
Indeed. “Invasion of illegal aliens” is exactly what it was and is. Round them up and deport them. They are enemies of this country!
Whenever DACA comes up on these pages A picture of Mexican train freight cars topped with abandond children from Mexico’s southern neighbors should appear. Along with an explanation of how much that Obama government policy is costing voters of those states where they were dumped off is.
For once, I agree with Ted.
I remember that. Glenn Beck - Hillary voter
100,000 >> 500,000
Ten years, five million people...
After he announced for president that disappeared from his web-site. He claimed circumstances had changed. What a load of B.S.
People had been required to train their replacements for years prior to that. Ted just didn't have clue one.
At other times he claimed the only reason he advocated it in the first place was to use it as a poison pill so some legislation couldn't pass. Of course it was rejected out of committee. It never got to the floor. Strangely enough, this remained on his web site for years.
Let's just admit he didn't exactly have an endearing relationship with the truth.
At one time a few strings of beads seemed like a pretty good deal to some Indians.
He can lie and mislead just like any politician, that “natural born american” dominionist rascal.
IT is severely bid down by the Indian masses.
What caused the turn around in Cruz?
Cruz will be the GOP nominee for senator from Texas. He’ll run
against Beto O’Rouke and win in November. The primary is 40 days
hence from today.
I just don’t want any blanket sort of deal. I think we need to do case by case...those that have actually been following the DACA agreement they signed up for I would give some consideration to if it would be in the best interest of our country to keep them. Those that have not stayed in school, or working, or have criminal records need to go. I think your age groups are pretty good as long as that is not the whole criteria.
If they do any sort of blanket deal then we are going to end up with the criminals along with the honor students the dims brag about. The dims want to act like the criminal element does not exist but we know better. I don’t want to make a deal with the deadbeats either- if they have been hanging out on the couch doing nothing they are not likely to contribute to this country either.
I would give a path to citizenship to those DACA that have honorably served in our military; I read an article the other day that said less than 100 have served. I don’t know if they were all honorably discharged or if some are still serving or what but if they were willing to do that I have no problem with giving them citizenship.
This has to be done with the idea of what is best for our country, and our citizens. As everything needs to be.
He believes there should be no citizenship for people who are here ILLEGALY. And he is correct!
I do but like you I will eat my peas and live with whatever the powers that be decide we must have.
