Gov. Cuomo wants to give another break to immigrant Dreamers by extending free public college tuition to students who were brought into to the United States illegally as kids.
Cuomo tucked a provision in his $168 billion budget plan that would amend state education law to make the undocumented students eligible for the Excelsior Scholarship program, which covers tuition costs for students from families with incomes of up to $125,000.
On Tuesday, he said the state would continue providing Medicaid to Dreamers regardless of any federal changes to the Deferred Action Childhood Arrival Program, or DACA.

NYS is over $4 billion in the hole.
There is no such thing as “free”.
And what this is really about is warm bodies. NYS is rumored to be losing 1 to 2 House seats after this next census. We lost 2 after the last one. NYS needs to replace makers bugging out, so it’s bribing takers.

And I’m sure Comrade Cuomo wants to arrange Uber riders to take the little darlings to school as well. Cuomo is desperate because he knows Joe Perccoco will roll on him.
I think it’s finally time to leave NY State. I’m going to make the necessary updates to my bathroom, hire a real estate agent, and get the hell out of there. And I’m going to take my money and my pension with me.
Let’s forget about “privileged whites” for a minute. How about blacks who would like to go to college for free? And those who immigrated legally? What a stupid idea, Cuomo.
According to the US Census, New York City's household income was $55,191 in 2016.
People -- people with assets to protect -- have voted with their wallets and with their feet. Yes, you can live well in New York City -- Donald Trump does. But Donald Trumps's place is a golden tower in a golden neighborhood on a golden island.
New York State has lost an amazing 18 seats in Congress (and electoral votes) since 1950. It had 45 congressional districts in 1950. It has 27 districts today. It last had that few in 1813-1823.
By linear extrapolation by about 2110 New York should be down to a single congressional district.
Also by linear extrapolation by 2110 New York's combined state and city income tax rates should be about 10,000%. (It won't happen, of course. Nobody with any income will live there by then.)
Undocumented and indoctrinated.
Status Cuomo is killing NYS. If it wasn’t for the economic engine of NYC, the entire state (which is a beautiful state, btw) will end up an economic and social wasteland.
Why these states in the Northeast are bent on becoming another California is beyond me.
So much for tax paying citizens.
I am sure legal residents of New York State who are shelling out tuition for their kids will be thrilled to hear that.
My late great-uncle was a Catholic priest in the Buffalo area.
I used to kid him that since he had taken a vow of poverty he was the only guy I knew who could afford to live in New York State.
Hey! Here’s an idea. Let the wet dreamers pay for their own damn “education”. It’s the American way. They need to get used to it.
So of course any family making over 125,000 gets nothing but the criminal class goes to college for...free?
Meanwhile, my kids are sitting on a combined student loan debt of over $250,000...
It may be free to them but some people are paying for it somewhere like in higher taxes for the you know, the disadvantaged, the illegals; it’s the children you know.
