A member of the U.S. mens figure skating team got his leotard in a twist because Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to lead the U.S. Olympic delegation to South Korea in February.
Adam Rippon, the 2016 U.S. mens figure skating, pitched a particularly nasty hissy fit telling USA Today he would prefer not to shake the vice presidents hand before the opening ceremony.
Mr. Rippon is believed to be the first openly gay Winter Olympian and he took great umbrage at the vice presidents devout Christian faith.
You mean Mike Pence, the same Mike Pence that funded gay conversion therapy? Rippon snarled. Im not buying it.
Mr. Rippon, the poster child for tolerance and diversity, went on to say the vice president and the Trump administration do not represent his personal beliefs.
I dont think he has a real concept of reality, Mr. Rippon said. To stand by some of the things that Donald Trump has said and for Mike Pence to say hes a devout Christian man is completely contradictory. If hes okay with whats being said about people and Americans and foreigners and about different countries that are being called s***holes, I think he should really go to church.
Sadly, Mr. Rippon did not bother to do his homework before attacking the vice president. It turns out he never supported gay conversion therapy.
The vice president is proud to lead the U.S. delegation to the Olympics and support Americas incredible athletes. This accusation is totally false and has no basis in fact, the vice presidents spokesperson said. Despite these misinformed claims, the vice president will be enthusiastically supporting all the U.S. athletes competing next month in Pyeongchang.
The male figure skater also said he will not be attending a post-Olympic celebration hosted by President Trump at the White House.
Lets just hope the fragile figure skating snowflake can muster the decency not to stage some sort of outrageous protest during the Olympics.
Its one thing to embarrass yourself and your family in USA Today its another thing to embarrass an entire nation.
I will participate in no form of protest. Im representing myself and my country on the world stage, he reassured the newspaper. What makes America great is that were all so different. Its 2018 and being an openly gay man and an athlete, that is part of the face of America now.
Adam Rippon may know how to land a triple axel, but when it comes to civility and grace, hes skating on thin ice.
He’s a fag, Jim.
A gay figure skater? Who’dve thunk it?
If Rippon is openly gay should he be called Mr.? /S
The VP would be man enough not to be threatened by someone with an opposing viewpoint, and polite enough not to make a disturbance over it.
He should hook up with the Iranian, Saudi, or Syrian ice skaters.
I wonder what kind of therapy Rippen got. Hydro?
So stay home! Who gives a crap what you want, think or do you stinkin’ pervert?
Hey, Adam. Here is a news flash for you...
You’re not gay.
You’re a homosexual.
Wear a pink pussy hat.
He is so judgmental and intolerant. Chill out.
Scott Hamilton, Kurt Browning, Michael Weiss, Todd Eldredge.
I thought the same thing in my Drum Corps days. We integrated the color guard so they could do couple dances, and every guy was gay. All I could think was, I’d LOVE to hold her like that!
“Mr. Rippon is believed to be the first openly gay Winter Olympian and he took great umbrage at the vice presidents devout Christian faith.”
Umm, “believed to be?” Weasel words. Sorry, but I watched Brian Boitano skate in 1988 and EVERYBODY knew he was gay. The damn TV network even did a feature story about how much he enjoyed living in San Francisco. This is like when libs try to pretend that “Modern Family” was the first time anybody saw gay people on TV. Sorry, libs, some of us grew up watching Snagglepuss on Hanna-Barbera cartoons.
Don’t forget Johnny Weir!
He is lucky to be going to the Olympics after coming in 4th at nationals
“We are all so different..”
But Pence is different in a bad way.
Scott Hamilton, the retired skater isn’t homosexual. According to Wikipedia, he and his wife have four kids.
I remember watching him skate and he came across as athletic and masculine, not all wimpy and emotional.
Haha. :D
Will just add him to the list I will not pull for in the Olympics.
