Conservatives constantly complain about Hollywood often for very good reasons.
The industrys voice is almost uniformly liberal. Major stars (like Amy Schumer and Michael Shannon) talk down to Red State denizens in the ugliest ways possible. Films often mock or denigrate the U.S. Military (think Redacted for a glaring Exhibit A).
Liberal messages abound in many films and TV shows. Consider the resistance themes lurking within Supergirl and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Sites like NewsBusters cover this terrain aggressively. Tinsel Town gives the sites writers plenty of fodder.
Hollywood also hasnt captured the heroism displayed by U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
Enter 12 Strong.
The Jan. 19 release tells the amazing true story of the Horse Soldiers. These brave Green Berets were the first U.S. boots on the ground in war-torn Afghanistan after terrorists killed 3,000-plus Americans on Sept 11, 2001.
Modern day heroes Major Mark Nutsch and Chief Warrant Officer Robert Pennington are played by Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon, respectively. Some of the facts have been changed for dramatic purposes (including the aforementioned heroes names). The thrust of the mission remains accurate and compelling.
The film should be red meat to conservatives. Its patriotic and lacks the kind of pearl clutching seen in some war movies. The Taliban is depicted in the cruelest way possible, reflecting the truth behind the barbaric group. Its also apolitical to the core.

NON print version:
All signs are it’s a poorly executed movie. I’m never obligated to see a movie, especially if it’s no good.
One war movie doesn’t fix the problem.
Part of the point of being a conservative is not marching to someone’s drum. That’s who liberals are. Don’t tell me what I have to do to be a conservative.
And I noticed they changed the facts for dramatic purposes. So what am I supposed to go do see a fantasy movie about the way Hollywood thinks it should have been?
I never complain about movies. I go to one if it interests me - “Lego: Ninjago” was cute - and not if it doesn’t. The calls to “support” this film or that confuse me. Shouldn’t an entertainment product speak for itself, without someone’s calling for people pay for tickets even if they don’t want to see it?
The narrative is weak and the dialogue is disappointing
13 hours or band of brothers you can watch often
This is a good story not very well executed but its watchable for sure
I honor and revere our troops, but what’s “conservative” about endless war in Afghanistan? As Trump said when running for president, we’ve blown trillions of tax dollars on mideast wars. Time to fix the US, and stop with the unnecessary wars. Our soldiers should be deployed to protect our own borders, not Agghanistans or Syrias
Forget it Jake, it’s still Hollyweird/the National Felons League/Targheyt.
Let them try midlife career changes.
When did being conservative become all about war? Wars are incredibly expensive, the Bush-Obama wars increased our debt by trillions, while destabilizing the Middle East
The same neocons who can’t spend enough on war say that we can’t afford to pay retirees their social security.
With much due respect to your statement, these warriors entered Afghanistan within weeks of their culpability for 9-11.Its fully within our conservative belief system to attack those who attacked us. This country was attached by Al Queda which was protected to plan inside Afghanistan. The problems with the protracted war and poor decisions came much later. This is the period where we kicked ass and dominated.
i’ll support whom and what I want to support, never who or what you tell me to. this is like that lunatic who told us to ice out on the nfl boycott.
Michael Shannon is one of the few actors I won’t watch. His comments about conservatives were disgusting.
Supporting decent movies is a good thing, but rewarding mediocrity for some social value is liberal at its core. I dont mind watching a good b-movie at home, but Im not willing to drop $50 at a theater unless its worth it.
Plus, as I told my wife, Im rather sick of the entire premise after 15+ years at war and our troops being used as pawns by those who opposed everything America was founded upon. Many of our troops and operators are magnificent; the same cannot be said about any of the military leadership. Mattis stands head-and-shoulders above the rest of the perfumed princes, but thats no true measure.
I hear this movie depicts the Taliban as the vile perverts they are. When I hear our military leaders and politicians say the same, then Ill get back on the bandwagon. Otherwise, we have no interest in the region worth one drop of American blood.
I kinda see the authors point but still hard to support assclowns that don’t care for us one iota in the real world. Well except our wallets and pocket books. (And why are they called pocket books anyway.) Starting to lean more to DVD as the thread wears on.
Negative comments are directed to the message, not you.
I’ll watch it on tellybision, but won’t pay $20+ to go to the lobby to get something to eat.
