I lived through shutdowns while in the military in the eighties. Our military will show up for work even though the Congress has not worked since Newt was last speaker.

Obama had to come up with ways to force the public to notice the shutdown. Closing open air veterans’ memorials, public parks and the like so his friends in the lapdog media could get photo ops of dejected tourists.

If you don’t mind going around gates, it means all admittance is free. Up here, they just ran a little twine and a sign across the nature reserve trail, and there is never a fee anyways.

I did notice then that getting in and out of DC on the roads was a lot easier. Less traffic, kind of nice, actually.
