Schumer said that he made “progress” with the president but they were unable to reach any official deal in the “long and detailed meeting.”

“We made some progress but we still have a good number of disagreements. The discussion will continue,” Schumer told reporters after leaving the meeting.

Trump and Schumer met amid a looming government shutdown, as Senate Democrats have refused to vote on a continuing resolution to fund the government unless it includes protections for DACA recipients. Republicans do not currently have the 60 votes necessary to pass the resolution.

The government will shut down at midnight if the funding bill does not pass.

There are things going on right now that dwarf this shut down in comparison. The 4 page memo is a nuclear bombshell. Washington is frozen in fear. We want it made public. It is so powerful that even though all members of congress have it— IT IS NOT LEAKING. That tells me a great deal. We have a real threat to democracy revealed.
