I don’t want to get this thread distracted into the various promises not kept (like cutting off countries, like India, that refuse to take back deportees) as my point is that Trump does seem wobbly on immigration, saying one thing, then another. It has been observed that he seems to go with latest visitor (e.g., Ivanka). He’s had to walk back or clarify views on immigration.

last week he said he’d sign any bill then changed his tune the next day. I am guessing that he knew no bill would come out of this group that he couldn't sign, however he apparently does not know Lindsey as well as he thought.

He's said it many times and it was in "The Art of the Deal". Unpredictably. If your opponent has to guess on what you'll accept in a negotiation then they're at a disadvantage.
