I don’t want to get this thread distracted into the various promises not kept (like cutting off countries, like India, that refuse to take back deportees) as my point is that Trump does seem wobbly on immigration, saying one thing, then another. It has been observed that he seems to go with latest visitor (e.g., Ivanka). He’s had to walk back or clarify views on immigration.
It's part of his negotiation strategy. He's said it many times and it was in "The Art of the Deal". Unpredictably. If your opponent has to guess on what you'll accept in a negotiation then they're at a disadvantage.
