Analysis: It’s a Blue House Wave, but Not Yet a Senate One
Roll Call ^ | January 17, 2018 | Stuart Rothenberg

Rural, Trump-friendly states make for a formidable map for Democrats

Democrats ought to temper their optimism about the fight for the Senate this year.

Yes, Doug Jones’ victory in Alabama’s special election gives their party a path to a Senate majority in November. But at this point, it remains an unlikely path, despite the official party line.

Even assuming Senate seats in both Arizona and Nevada fall to Democrats — not a certainty, but more likely than not — Republicans can maintain control of the Senate by swiping a Democratic seat in West Virginia, Indiana, Missouri, North Dakota or one of the half-dozen other states carried by Donald Trump in 2016.

Republicans don’t need to win all those states or most of them or even some of them. They need only one, unless another GOP-held seat comes into play.

Rothenberg and Gonzalez sucked in 2016. All they do is project Democrat victories.

“unless another GOP-held seat comes into play.”

And if anyone can put one of their erstwhile safe seats into play, it’s the Repubs.

It’s a long way to November, and the Dems have spent all their ammunition. I suspect Trump has a series of bombshells set to go off between now and then. That may change the facts on the ground.

I think the other thing is the tax plan, it shows that the Republicans have a plan, and what do the Democrats plan on doing if they oust the Republicans? stir up more riots? Preach how evil anyone who thinks differently is?

If Americans really want to see this booming economy derailed and the stock markets collapse, then they should vote for the Democrats.

It”s the economy stupid.

unless another GOP-held seat comes into play.

I think the McCain seat may come into play before November.

Yeah exactly. It seems a lot of people who vote Democrat either only vote for social issues or don’t have jobs.

Dems are scarewed if we keep the Senate - one or more Supreme Court nominees possible.

And the House won’t look so dire in 9 months. I know for certain a WHOLE LOT of indictments coming, and the economy will still be ripping.

Why can’t we get high quality candidates in N. Dakota and Montana? How long until it is too late to declare in these states?

Exactly. If you keep saying the same thing for long enough of eventuslly the odds are going to be in your favor that you’re going to get it right once. they don’t have the clue.

I think the current buzz of “democrat wave” is bulls***. Their base in the Hispanic and Black communities is/will continue to erode and over all the actual event cycle is going blow them apart because they are the predominant corruption faction.

That said, I would be surprised if TPTB didn’t initiate a crushing market correction as an attempt to halt Trumps momentum. There are going to be some increasingly desperate swamp dwellers.

I wouldn’t call winning a state senate election a blue wave.

Every two years the Dems are going to retake the House.
