Three weeks after college, I flew to Senegal, West Africa, to run a community center in a rural town. Life was placid, with no danger, except to your health. That danger was considerable, because it was, in the words of the Peace Corps doctor, "a fecalized environment."
In plain English: s--- is everywhere. People defecate on the open ground, and the feces is blown with the dust onto you, your clothes, your food, the water. He warned us the first day of training: do not even touch water. Human feces carries parasites that bore through your skin and cause organ failure.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a few decades later, liberals would be pushing the lie that Western civilization is no better than a third-world country. Or would teach two generations of our kids that loving your own culture and wanting to preserve it are racism.
***SNIP***
I couldn't wait to get home. So why would I want to bring Africa here? Non-Westerners do not magically become American by arriving on our shores with a visa.
For the rest of my life, I enjoyed the greatest gift of the Peace Corps: I love and treasure America more than ever. I take seriously my responsibility to defend our culture and our country and pass on the American heritage to the next generation.

Why do they not dig holes? Why do they not bury it? Why? Why?
Are immigrants from these s**t-hole countries trained and carefully monitored regarding hygiene before being allowed to work in our restaurants? Inquiring minds want to know please.
And then there’s that picture of UN troops (looks like native soldiers) with stolen blue book bags meant for children in school.
Good questions. I think it's entirely reasonable and justified to refer to countries as sh*tholes when their people openly defecate on public streets.
Unlike PC backpackers, they are not required to carry shovels
I agree with DIRTYSECRET on this, although you are correct, in this case the person did appear to be a liberal who “got mugged” and she understands what I have known nearly my whole life, and I know it not from simple blind patriotism.
I consider myself fortunate that I lived in other countries growing up, and had traveled around the world by the time I was 13 (military family)
I believe that experience never put me in the situation of having to be a liberal who needed mugging to see the truth. I saw different cultures and abject poverty...children willing to swim in an open sewer to have pennies thrown to them counts as abject poverty to me.
When I landed on the runway at Kennedy International Airport at the age of 13 after living overseas for about four years, I literally-not figuratively-literally got on my knees and kissed the tarmac. Not because my life overseas was hard-far from it...living on large military bases is like being in America.
But I saw enough to make me realize that even with flaws and faults, America was the best place in the world to be, bar none.
These people in the Peace Corps are overwhelmingly leftist, and unfortunately, many are so ideologically fixed in cement that they are not going to change their mind until they literally are bleeding, lying in an open sewer after being assaulted for a ballpoint pen, shoes, or a hat.
The Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and stuff like that should be gone, IMO.
That is why Obama, the kendonesian, wanted to level the playing field in removing America’s hard won advantages.
I went to Egypt back in the Seventies, and the poverty level was significant there.
Nails it.

“Why do they not dig holes? Why do they not bury it? Why? Why?”
To me that’s a huge question. There’s more to the problem than bad government or poverty. The people don’t bother to dig holes??? Cleanliness must mean nothing to them.
This organization DOES help...they teach/help the LOCALS...avoiding the bureaucracies...they don’t give money...they build and teach maintenance, etc. Our neighbor happens to be a part of them.

I’m not sure about restaurants but I worked for an oil company and whenever we would get employees newly transferred from some African and Asian countries we would have to put signs up in the ladies toilet saying, don’t stand on the toilet seat, flush the toilet, don’t pee in the drain on the floor, dispose of feminine products in the trash bin provided not on the floor, wash your hands after. It was disgusting. Sometimes it looked like someone had an abortion in the bathroom. Other times it was just shit everywhere. No hygiene, no hand washing. Then they would go make coffee.
Well, then, FRiend -- Welcome to sh*thole San Francisco, USof A
That is downtown San Francisco. And, the city has made "street dumps" LEGAL!
(See FR thread, San Francisco Is A Literal S***hole, Public Defecation Map Reveals...)
Yep...not just sh*thole countries but we now have sh*thole American cities! Thank you democrat party.
Why don’t they even want to clean up their act?
When I was reduced to riding the city buses because of a drastic change in economic circumstances, I met a bus driver who had been in the navy and had had occasion to anchor off Nairobi, Kenya, sometime in the ‘80’s. He said that even two miles out to sea, the stench was overpowering. He also commented that once the crew got topside and got a whiff, NO ONE wanted Liberty to explore, examine and/or shop!
I thought that odd when he was relating it, but now, I have a better appreciation for his story telling ability. I’m sure he was trying to “protect my sensibilities!”
Back in the '80s I worked for an international rent-a-rig outfit as a programmer. I was one of three Americans out of a team of 23. During lunch, it was always fascinating to listen to some of their stories, which almost invariably ended with, "You people don't know how lucky you are."
Maybe because the next person might get $#!+ under their fingernails when he comes along and dig a hole that someone else had already dug up, crapped in, then refilled it...
That would be gross
