First things first: former Atlanta Mayor and U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young Jr. signaled exactly zero ZERO support for President Donald Trumps remarks disparaging Haiti and Africa as shithole countries during recent talks on immigration.
Instead he offered a learned and dispassionate assessment of Haitis history and its immeasurable contributions to the United States whilst throwing a little shade, as the kids say, the presidents way. He is a student of and a product of history he doubts the president grasps.
Because I grew up in New Orleans, I have had an appreciation for the role Haiti played in helping the United States stay together, Young said during a Friday afternoon interview. The president? I wouldnt expect him to know that.
Young was born in New Orleans to Daisy and Andrew Jackson Young Sr. His grandfather named his father in honor of Gen. Andrew Jackson, hero of the Battle of New Orleans and later a United States president.

Shouldn’t he be changing his name?
Why yes, I believe he should. Hey, it’s all the rage right now. Tear things down, rename them if not.
Yes Mr. Young, Hillary Clinton contributed to what Haiti is today. We already knew.
The U. S. has tried to help Haiti a lot.
This is what it gets for it.
The US has no responsibility for the mess Haiti is.
We have tried to help but unless the Hatians themselves get on board with cleaning up the corruption in their government and elsewhere, it’s not going to change.
Actually, I recall that Bill Clinton, when President, used the U.S. military to reinstall the dictator Baby Doc Duvalier after he was ousted. So the U.S. under Clinton *was* responsible for at least some of Haitis recent woes.
“Haitis history and its immeasurable contributions to the United States”
Immeasurable contributions?
OK. Yes, in that case, it did.
In that it is hard to measure something so small.
When one “helps” in a place like that, the devil is in the details.
If government is dysfunctional, throwing money at it gives that place some well funded dysfunction.
Missions are what’s needed.
“Missions are whats needed.”
Don’t disagree with that at all.
On the other hand, if I were running the government, what I would propose to countries like Haiti is that we would solicit American companies to partner with Haitians and start businesses there. It would be mandatory that those hired were Haitians, and the government would have to agree that any and all tax revenues generated from such an endeavor would go directly to infrastructure and modernization of the country. The benefit to the American business? Tax breaks in the US. The entire program would be voluntary. There are a significant number of additional ‘rules’ that I would demand be accepted and put in place by the Haitian government, but I’m convinced that this type of partnership would go a much longer way to helping modernize Haiti than just sending money.
From what I’ve read on cnn, at least one of their reporters ( Jack Trapper?) walked back the allegation that Trump used this term, or any term, to describe Haiti. Apparently, all Trump said was to question why they were included on this particular list, and asked that they be removed from the list.
So, Young is agreeing with something Trump never said.
Better ideas are needed before a market can sanely take off.
I’ve heard that India is a dreadful place.
They tolerate it because it’s all folks working off their karma.
Author Jennifer Brett is an imbecile. President Trump did not disparage Haiti, that was fake news. CNN admitted as much. He was talking about some African countries. Haiti never came up in that dialog.
“In that it is hard to measure something so small.”
Only thing that I can think of is gris gris bags and voodoo dolls.
So they got that.
Jimmy Carter’s field hand still alive? Well toss me a Billy Beer, Bub.
Haiti is a shithole, he said, echoing the presidents widely disparaged remarks in an entirely different take. But its largely because the French and the Europeans resented they were defeated there. Haiti has been neglected. Its also been the victim of hurricanes and earthquakes. We have helped, but never enough to get them on their feet.. . . and whose fault is that? No, its not Bueller - its the Clinton Foundation.
Even CNN admitted that Trump did not use this term in regards to Haiti. Yet the Fake media is still pretending that he did.
