Port-Au-Prince: A City of Millions Without a Sewer System
National Public Radio ^ | April 13, 2012 | Richard Knox

Posted on 01/13/2018 9:20:53 AM PST by PBRCat

Port-au-Prince is about the size of Chicago. But it doesn't have a sewer system. It's one of the largest cities in the world without one.

That's a big problem, but never more so than during a time of cholera... the disease is endemic — more than a half-million people have gotten sick and at least 7,050 have died.

The cumulative sewage of 3 million people flows through open ditches. It mixes with ubiquitous piles of garbage. Each night, an all-but-invisible army of workers called bayakou descend into man-sized holes with buckets to remove human waste from septic pits and latrines, then dump it into the canals that cut through the city.

You mean, the Clinton Foundation hasn’t built them one??
As I recall the Bush family had their hands in there milking that Haitian cash cow too.

Maybe Maria Hinojosa should have checked the NPR archives before appearing on MSNBC... "At first criticizing President Trump for his offensive comments about immigrants in the Oval Office on Thursday,..."

Billions disappeared from the State Dept.

And I believe the US spent about $20T in known debt.
And — beyond that debt — the US seems to have spent $21T which is unaccounted for.

We really ought to have a thriving Martian Colony with all the money that disappeared. Maybe we do.

I say we evacuate Every last Haitian, load them all onto a few oil tankers, ship them to Germany, then turn Haiti into an island paradise

Oh. 2012. For a minute there —— jut a minute -— I had thought in amazement that NPR was going to contextualize Trump’s alleged blurphole comment.

..all-but-invisible army of workers called bayakou descend into man-sized holes with buckets to remove human waste from septic pits and latrines, then dump it into the canals that cut through the city.

So the Clintons did create jobs there.

“...with buckets to remove human waste from septic pits and latrines, then dump it into the canals that cut through the city.”

This will be known as The Clinton Canal System.

In comparison, the city of Birmingham, Alabama went and borrowed a tremendous amount of money on bonds, to build a sewage plant capable of handling around 1.5 million in population. The city is lucky to have 212,000 and over-built by 500-percent.

It should be remembered that two nations are based on the same island (separated by a mountain rande): Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Although the Dominican Republic is also poor, it is postively prosperous in comparison to Haiti which subsists in manner that borders upon the primitive.

Your post #19

Then there was the reconstruction money that flowed through the Foundation. Some of it evidently made it into the pockets of their friends, the rest, who knows.

We up in Canada know the unmitigated greed of some non-taxable charity grants. Horror is expressed because they use 85% on other things, 15% on the actual situation. Even using a measly 15% in Haiti, surely a state of the art sewer system could have been built? Added to that a recovery system that converts waste to useful purposes.

The vile, evil greed that has gripped Haiti might be almost as bad as terrorism.
